IMHO, this is tax (April 15) selling. Today is the last day to sell for T+2 products. Monday market action is a real tell. PPI lower, CPI higher = higher corporate profits.
I bought 6.5 duration on Wednesday. It is a minuscule position. Home appliances are cheap now if any one wants to upgrade. Inflation is in some services, most of it should come down, except from lower productivity from some jobs.

uncleharley, Did you see the frenzy in buying in all sorts of equities as the market was closing? I would like to think i caused it! Any idea what caused it. In the last 10 minutes, I sold SOLV, a health care MMM spin, that showed up in my trading account a few days ago and I did not realize it is a HC company until today. bought NDAQ with the proceeds. Wanted to buy PDBA but the volume is so light (only 9K) and spreads are wide. Also, added more to MMM.

Bought some T yesterday @ $16.27. Dividend (6.85%) looks safer after the cut. Needed to diversify my income a little from the MM interest. Not looking for a home run price wise.

Bought an experimental holding of SDOW - ProShares UltraPro Short Dow30, at $18.39. With a current PE of around 30 (oops, 26) for the DJIA it seems like a reasonable bet. Almost back to even!!

Bought 364 shares of DXJ at 108.66. Seems like a good fund for Japanese stocks. Will not hesitate to sell it if it stops performing.

Friday, rolled some of the proceeds of my recent AFT sale into DMO. Current yield 13%. Should be sustainable as they raised the distribution last month.

Bought 10 more shares of FBND. Almost a 3% position now. Will keep adding a little more if 10 year holds here or keeps rising.

Itchy fingers and all - added to the miniscule Duration position.
Anyone interested in fixed income CEFs? I would say get your watch list and buy list ready. May be someone can resurrect the CEF thread.

Sold My position in MJ for $3.69 per share. I broke even on the trade. I am going in a different direction with my speculative positions.
Opened a position in GDXU for $35.18 per share. Fear & confusion are driving this market. Gold is historically a safe haven.

Whatever we choose to believe about the trend for real inflation, outearning it cannot be a bad strategy. So, I rolled some leftover cash into PAXS (14.78 = 12.13% yield). The recent premium has evaporated. I'm hoping that buying below NAV might offer some downside protection. Might have got a better price by waiting, or not... we'll see.

Took gains on 40% of my position in UUP. Technicals may or may not be tiring but I cannot imagine how/why dollar might be on an enduring upswing. Remain near zero equities.

This isn’t that yet but as the saying goes it seems to “rhyme”. This is why this works pretty good.

Dollar is at a 30-yr high against the yen. Despite earlier Fed indications of three interest rate cuts, markets doubt there'll be two -- or even fewer. Higher Treasury rates are bullish for the buck. Meanwhile, Israel hits the mullahs overnight. I'll be adding to gold at the open, via CEF. Gold & dollar both strong. Interesting times

It is down today on no news. 1H of May div declaration and 2H of May is ex-date. I think they issue K-1s. I think it is trading at a premium FWIW. I started buying today.

On a personal level I always admired Icahn; shareholder/dividend friendly and a take-no-prisoners nemesis to over-comfortable managements. But I'm just at the point in my life when I cannot afford to make any BIG mistakes -- and IEP remains high risk/high reward, IMO. I felt sorry for investors holding large positions in earl 2023. They wound up in tatters, and there was no excuse for someone as smart as Icahn to let that happen. Since then, I haven't followed the company. So if you know anything, you know more than I do. TipRank's score 4/10 doesn't begin to reflect the possibilities. Merrill won't venture an opinion. Good luck with it.

Sold out of AVUV to capture a profit on today's bounce. My sense is that the recent run-up has run out of steam and that downside risk outweighs opportunity cost to the upside in the near term. I'll keep a eye on this and decide whether to start again, somewhat lower.

Forgot to post the following: 16April...bought first bucket of XLF in youngest daughter's conversion from a growth portfolio in her IRAs, to a more balanced value/income portfolio as she plans for early retirement in next five years. Like the valuations of financials for long term holding.
Yesterday, added a half bucket XLF to same. Why a half bucket? Because the price rise was only about 2.5% above first buy (usually 3% minimum). Wanted yesterday as was impressed market didn't for once open higher and sell off throughout the day. Like chart pattern. Like rotation from large cap high tech.

I think it is a good call on rates to go down from here, as I said yesterday though I did not think they would reverse so soon. I bought BA today at nearly $100 below the price before the Alaska Air door plug blowout. This is just a replacement of shares I sold at $210 after hoping with frustration the price would stabilize post door plug blowout. This is a management that should not be allowed to run even your street corner candy store. So, the price can go lower and no one should follow me into BA. Tesla earnings are out - missed earnings by 15% revenue by 5% and free cash flow negative but the stock is up cause they promised to produce cheaper cars towards the end of 2025. Musk groupies will believe anything he promises and says. I wish he ran BA.

Order in today to exchange FBNDX to FTBFX. Capturing a tax loss, just like I did when I exchanged FTBFX for FBNDX. It's nice collecting a tax loss every month. Not so nice watching your fund's balance go down the gurgler.

I agree no one likes a loss. But rates are not quite ready to go down yet so take advantage of temporary losses while you can. As long as the fund you use to replace the loser is one you want to hold long term.

Dribbling a little $ into VFINX in my VG IRA. Cash was sitting in core as a result of a divvy some months ago when I failed to have dividend-reinstatement turned on. (VG is kind of weird; the default is divvies-to-core [unlike Fido, where the default is dividends reinvested] so you need to manually activate dividend reinvestment ... easy to forget.)
Looks like a down day for the Mag7 with Facebook falling on its face.

Good day to be out of equities. Bonds no better, however discounts on some muni CEFs are starting to look extreme as they slip day by day -- but gold continues strong. I know a lot of people pooh-pooh the idea, but the dollar's global hegemony may well be at risk; hence Pr metals and commods. That is the only prediction I'm willing to make. There are too many flash points around the world to pretend to see markets a year ahead.
Added to UDN on current technicals.
