Small buy for a starter set on AVUV. Testing the waters, and my nerve...

This morning I sold my position in TQQQ for $59.35 per share. I intend to hold the cash for now. I feel that the market is looking a bit toppy and is due for a correction. Current price is $57.85. The sale looked good most of this week.

Took a hit on PBR-A as the upcoming special dividend was cancelled by the majority share governemt over objections of the CEO. I thought the preferred would be somewhat safer than the common shares; while a socialist government wouldn't hesitate to arbitrarily change course on common stock, I thought it would hesitate to muck up its preferreds.
Wrong. Common & preferreds were both hit about 10% and both lose expected dividend. Sold one third my position for a 5% loss.
Bought a small position in SDS as protective hedge -- on short term technicals.
------------
My TD Ameritrade account will move under the Schwab banner in a couple of days. (I already have a Schwab account.) I have asked if I will still have access to Tipranks scores after the switch-over. Cannot get a straight answer. I suspect not, and if not, may move my TD assets over to IBKR.

Placed an order for Monday to exchange FTBFX -> FBNDX at Fido.
Why- just to book a small tax loss. Bought FTBFX earlier this year; bad timing as yields have gone up, not down. I’m positive on the investment over the near to medium term, but as I have a small loss I might as well harvest it. Both funds are very similar (only FTBFXhas a bit of HY thrown in). In 31 days I can exchange back, if I want to (knowing my luck — to book another tax loss!).

I opened a position in MJ this morning at $3.665 per share. A short term rally of 10% is indicated by the daily chart. Weekly chart indicates much larger potential.
Also opened a position in TQQQ today for $60.06 per share in my IRA.

I think I had a post today earlier on this thread that did not take. That post was:
"For you speculative gold, bitcoin...equity traders, MJ pot stock etf up about 17% last two days. Biden admin. changing positions and pushing some good things favoring the companies."

chang , Will you be categorizing all buy, sells from now on ? No (I’m not sure what the question means). As usual, long digressions or OT comments that are likely to attract further responses will be moved to their own thread. Edit: I just noticed that retiredat48's MJ comment here was in direct connection with a previous BS&W post. My mistake, I didn't see that before. So I'm leaving his comment here AND on the "Alternative Investments" board ( here). R48 gets two for the price of one!

Snoozed & losed on the India Fund, giving back all my gains and then some. Sold for small loss. Bought SHIP and ARDC. I've been agnostic on yr midcaps, (out of the discussion) but added to SPE, tearing upward. Been negligent in posting, too; other interests. Watching: AMD, ARKY, FPI.

Bot some more AVUV USA Small Cap etf...after fed announcement, pyrmiding up existing position buys. Ditto added to SCHD.
Ditto for youngest daughter. Added to AVUV and SCHD, pyr up repositioning this 51 year old's portfolio towards retirement, planned before age 60!
Fun stuff.

Bot some more AVUV USA Small Cap etf...after fed announcement, pyrmiding up existing position buys. retiredat48 Just FYI - the XD date for AVUV is today 3/21. Your buy on 3/20 will earn the upcoming dividend, so I’m guessing you bought this in a tax deferred account …… but just a reminder to all to check upcoming dividend schedules before pulling the trigger in taxable accounts.

To complement the recent AVUV buy, I've added a new-issue Agency bond: Fed Home Loan bank, yielding 6.25%. Maturity is 2044. So far, all of my higher yielding Agency bonds have been called at first opportunity. I think of them more as a short-term boost to the MM fund, which will return the cash in a few months. This one is likely to be called in June.

Added to LMT at $444.00 - PyrUpping from previous buy at $427. I like it best among the big defense companies, and it’s raised its dividend for 22 years … soon to be an Aristocrat. The SR-72 is going to be wicked at Mach 6. Could build up to a decent, LT hold.

I owe, such as HELOCs. But rates like 3% fixed for next 16 years... means I will take them to my grave. I even have a 50 year old checking acct with a $5000 overdraft allowance privilege that I keep slightly negative all the time. But if I had longer term money in taxable,, it would be in ETFs that pay little in dividends, and because an ETF has special status re cap gains, no cap gain taxes. A good one is USA small cap ETFs. Then in tax advantaged accounts keep higher dividend paying allocations. R48

It's my understanding that most ETFs are paying qualified divs. I have very little in taxable accounts and what I do have is mostly cash. Back when interest rates were low I bought some USMV to give a little bump to the low interest rates, but I never have been taxed on the divs. I have read that SCHD also has avoided REITs to keep qualified status. As long as one isn't taking the divs for immediate income, the divs shouldn't be a tax issue, at least on the federal.

If one is in the lower range of income brackets they may have qualified dividends up to a limit that are nontaxable. Ditto cap gains may be nontaxable. I'm merely pointing out that one can own ETFs in taxable w/o any dividends and minimal cap gains, and still be part of a reasonable asset allocation. Use IRAs for more income stuff. Each to assess their situation. BTW I tend to post only to the super-wealthy such as Musk, Norbert, Zuckerberg, Chang, and Buffett... R48

Added to TCAF. Why- I received a dividend from SCHD, but I have temporarily turned off dividend reinvestment for SCHD. As it happens, SCHD is up at the moment and TCAF is down, so why not.
Have now built up TCAF to a decent size; time to let it run and see how it performs (compared to the S&P500).

Thot u were retired...Here you are, daytrading! R48 retiredat48 , I still have 3 years and 2 months until I retire to gainful unemployment. This came on my radar last night when I was looking at REITs for income. Looks like they may be coming back from bad tenant problems in the past. On the sidelines again but will keep this one on the radar. Looks to be heavily manipulated right now.
