Hello all. I have been retired 15 years after a 42 year career in data storage product development. I have been investing for my wife and I in the "together forever" mode. We have not drawn down any from our savings since my income suffices. Just turned 80 and now I am developing a simple hands off investment program that my non-investing savvy wife can draw from since a portion of my income will disappear. I'm looking forward to thoughts from the group. I am a photography enthusiast, an 11 handicap and take a sip of Makers Mark once in awhile.

At @7thhole ,...welcome. R48 (aka R3rdhole)...meaning, I have a hole-in-one, the third hole, upon which I live on!! Now see if a poster often called As_hole will also post a welcome! ...there are many candidates, judging by other poster comments, so difficult to figure this one out.

Well, I guess that I am a new member here and would like to introduce myself. I lurked on the M* boards for years reading many of y'all's posts. I also abandoned those forums when they went to crap but somehow missed the mass exodus to this forum. I was searching for something from Cliff on the old boards and saw a post cross referencing me to this forum. Super happy to find all y'all again!
Happy to report that I am 39 and could retire today, but business is too good and I am going to keep at that for a while longer. I am sure some of that is is due to having stumbled on the M* boards as a chump 24 year old straight out of college in '08. Really looking forward to gleaning more of the wisdom you all have to offer.
Also, I assume the worst, but does anyone know if Dennis (RetiredLimoman) is still around/kicking? I never connected with him, but always liked reading his commentary. Regards, Chris

Welcome chrisjen17, happy to have you here. Dennis passed on a couple of years ago, I recall seeing a post from someone who was in contact with him and his wife.

Guess I'm new here although looking at some of the posters it kind of feels like 'the usual suspects'. I participated in some Morningstar boards, a Boglhead back to the Diehards days but mostly resident on the early-retirement org site since 2003, retired from NASA at 57 in 2008. Been a great ride so far except for a couple medical issues. I tend to recomend index funds but actually hold mostly balanced funds like Wellsley and Wellington which have done well for me and keep me from playing too much. I do have one trading account but I am starting to simplify that as my (DW) dear wife has little interest in financial matters. So I'm not too interested in trading, I'm gettting older and slower; the key for me is to not make major mistakes. My 2021 portfolio returned 10.18% with an AA of 55/28/17, 2022 was -8.7% with an AA of 59/25/16, the cash portion was mostly TSP G Fund (something like a stable value fund)and ibonds I treat both as cash. The 'cash' and some preferrds dividends and some value stocks are all that kept things from being worse. Only major changes I made in 2022 was to exchange VBIAX (VG 60/40 Balanced Fund) for Wellington in a couple IRAs as I wanted to get rid of index bond funds and did some tax loss harvesting in my trading account which I would have preferred not to have had to do.
The 'yakers' name comes from DW & I being kayakers which we have done in many places around and many more planned since travel has recommenced.

I live in Pasadena CA, was the logistics manager for NASA at the Jet Propulsion Lab. Loved it, retired 2008 so basicly don't know anyone (or anything?) now.

My Xmas present to my age 53 (North Carolina) daughter, (who is retiring in next two years,) was a PRECISION kayak (used) and a WERNER Carbon Fiber paddle. She and hubby are heavy into kayaking now; in a few years they will be heading back to living on a sailboat on the Oceans...when second grand-daughter goes to college. Best wishes yakers. R48

Hi, new member Catdog here. Have been a lurker for a year or two. Also made limited posts on armchair and old morningstar forums.
Favorite memories of old morningstar are Retired Limo Driver for his insight and great stories. Also really respect Yogi and Kathie L. While YogiBearBull seems to still be very active I don't see too much of Kathie L. She may have been put off by some of the abrasiveness. Bently attacking anyone involved with ATT seems to be the type of stuff to avoid and Big Bang has done a great job of that.
Opened a brokerage account with Fidelity in 1994. Been with them since. Rolled my 401K into an IRA there in 2005 after 23 years at an investment casting factory. Been working for my wife ever since. She is a rental real estate wizard and we live mostly on rental income. Will be selling off last rental property soon because we are just too old (68).
I am a dividend income/value investor normally, but am currently in CD's and money markets. Playing it safe right now but would like to shift back to index/etf's soon.

catdog Hi. kathiel still posts a few times/year or so. She still leaves when the nastiness starts. You might look her up and message her through the members directory. As far as I know she’s still primarily a dividend income investor but has added some growth.

Hello catdog. What was your. handle on the old M* forum?
I am still around, but I don't post vey often. As Steelpony says, I am still primarily a dividend investor, though I did add in a few growth stocks. My goal is to bring in enough in dividends to fulfill my RMD.

catdog is recognized at M* with 0 OPs, 10 comments. community.morningstar.com/s/profile/0053o000008ge6gAAAI am still at M* Discussions. There is a committed/dedicated group of posters at M* TIAA Forum who won't move ANYWHERE else. I am also using M* as sort of a free hosting service for some linkable stuff, not that I need that now.

Hi Kathiel
While I was a long time lurker on morningstar forums, I only posted a couple of times. Handle was the same "catdog".
I was always so impressed with the way you calmly answered people that were questioning the dividend income strategy. I still get excited when I get a dividend even if it is only $14. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hi all, just finally got on here after months of trying. I have a couple other accounts on Pro-Boards, and when trying to make an account here I was going in circles with the screen name/password/email thing. I almost gave up. I used to post on Mstar but don't remember what name I was using; I quit after their last "new and improved" update a few years ago. My real name is Bruce and I often make an offshoot screen name from that, as I did here.
I quit posting on Bogleheads over a year ago; the moderating there is over the top. Been on MFO for years but haven't posted there in several years. Also been on Armchair since close to its launching.
I'm 72, was a self-employed toolmaker but retired in 2021. Livin' good on SS and interest/divvies from my portfolio; I rarely trade.
I remember Limoman, he was quite the character. He was big on balanced funds for the long term and his reasoning was sound. He was some influence on me buying VWIAX and JABAX -- which I still have.

Certainly. That simple approach of put it in VWELX/VWINX 50/50 and enjoy your life still challenges me to think about the effort I put into investing and whether it is worth it. (With previous year's low yields it definitely was). He was one of many, many of whom are here now, that I definitely owe a lot of gratitude for the knowledge gained. Anywho, catdog , I have to ask if the name is somehow tied to that terrible cartoon I remember watching as a preteen . Broozer, are you the BruceM I remember at M*?

I honestly couldn't remember my SN at Mstar, but I know it wasn't BruceM.
So I just tried signing in there (been a few years) and it came up as "Bruzer," which I do remember.

You are a winner!!!! I used to watch catdog with my granddaughter every day after work. Innocent times. I also called one of our cats catdog because she would fetch cough drops and bring them back to us.

FYI, there were a couple of dozen posts that diverged from New Member Intros into either "Where are they now? (old M* posters)" or the F.I.C. These are good discussions in their own right, but will be lost here. Hence, I moved them into two new threads on the OT and FF boards. If you're looking, please find them there.
