BearMkt , many in this country have "herd mentality". Lately that does seem to be the case. Other countries in history have had the same mentality. I think the guidelines for the public regarding testing, emergency room visits, quarantine, for the vaccinated/partially vaccinated/unvaccinated have been updated. Perhaps that may help reduce the "overcrowding".

Uncle Lewis Black, on the smallpox vaccination: "...They took me out of a very important class at school to give me the smallpox vaccine, which they promised us would last forever. ...THEN they discovered that it WORE THE F*** OFF. And they waited for an emergency to tell us. Great. That's like going into a public bathroom, then you flush the toilet, and the toilet water splashes up and hits you in the face. Then, on your way out, on the BACK SIDE of the restroom door, there's a sign that says: 'WARNING, TOILET WATER MAY HIT YOU IN THE FACE.' ...And if I had stayed and taken that class, I wouldn't have to do THIS bulls*** for a LIVING!" Here's a newer one, quite apropos: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHKUCBLkv0M

The wife just tested positive today after some time of moderate sweats, mild headaches, lethargy. I assume I have it too; only symptoms are nasal congestion.... or that just a cold? We both have 2x Moderna + booster, so for me it's a big yawn, but am mighty tired of all the womenfolk in the neighborhood phoning, skyping, texting, jawing away with her non-stop, not to mention family theories where I buried the mayonnaise jars with the gold coins. Everybody has an opinion.
I'm fed up with crashing bores button-holing me about morbidity, symptoms, plague. I'd rather talk about recreational sex. No one's interested.
-------------------
Update: broke a mighty sweat overnight. I must have had a low-level fever and didn't know it. Wife's headache continues. Otherwise we seem OK with ibuprophen + vitamin D

UPDATE #2: If you can both lock one ankle over the back of your neck, the Kama Sutra shows it is possible to........

Sorry to hear that you and the wife are sick. Recreational sex? Jeez. That remark just reminds me that "youth is wasted on the young." If only I could get back into that young man's body, knowing what I know NOW... But, locally: you want to see how widespread the obesity problem is? Come to Hawaii and look around. "How fat WAS she?" While all the media, medical, political and social, attention has been to covid, there are plenty of people, sick, dying, and need of care from other conditions. Many or most people I personally know have "tested positive" at some point over the past two years however, it's some other illness that some are really suffering or have died from.

Kama Sutra, indeed! LOL. I hope you're back in the pink real soon. A trip late last night to an overcrowded hospital at 1am wasn't fun for me and especially for my wife. A positive Covid test was all they initially focused on but the real issue is C. Diff. The Doc said, I think all your symptoms are COVID related but I knew it was C.Diff because I recognized the symptoms.

Sorry to hear about the your encounter with the bug, Rich. I have managed to avoid it so far using regular hydration with Woodford Reserve. Perhaps it would be therapeutic as well. Worth a try, anyway.

Worth a try, anyway. Jack Thanks. I like bourbon but C.Diff is pretty serious. Woodford won't cure it and neither will Makers. I don't have it but 2 close family members do, and after many thousands of dollars' worth of wide spectrum antibiotics, it doesn't go away. Many people suffer for years and ultimately die from it.

Was wondering what's the experience in Big Bang land these days, so I resurrected this thread. My wife and I are double boosted and have never had covid. Most of the people we know have had it and are at least single boosted. A buddy, in July, traveled to Atlanta/ Nashville for work and got it and gave it to his wife. They were both very sick for a few days, lost much smell and taste and my buddy, who is not neurotic, has moments of brian fog and chest pains 2 months later. (Said he'll be on a conference call and not be unable to follow and this guy is sharp, to say the least.) More friends, an extended family, traveled to NYC in June and they ALL got it. Again, most were quite ill but no mention of lasting effects. A birthday party at our golf club in late May, which we skipped after a quick risk/reward analysis, was a sort of spreader event, again some getting unpleasantly sick but no info on long effects.
I've been on public transit, masked, as were 99% of riders, bars/restaraunts, etc. and have been lucky, I guess. Bay Area, Ca.

I am single boosted. Got it June 5, on a flight I believe. Gave it to my unvaxed 92YO mom. Gave it to vaxed sister, SIL and niece. It was basically a cold but did have an extended cough. All got well. I found out that up to 90 days later you can test positive from first infection. My incubation period was about 2 days. We will all get it eventually.

I and my mother whom I take care of with alzhiemer's both got it last month. We are double vaxxed and double boosted. We both received antiviral medication paxlovid. It does wonders if taken as early as possible. They will not prescribe it if symptoms are past 5 days. The damage has been done by then. It works by stopping the replication of the virus. It can react with a whole host of medications, that either need to be stopped or dosage reduced. So be careful if you are prescribed it.
I do agree with Chahta, That it not a question of 'if' you get it, it is 'when' you get it.

I do agree with Chahta , That it not a question of 'if' you get it, it is 'when' you get it. I took Paxlovid too. That was nasty due to the fact it leaves your mouth tasting terrible 24/7, a side effect that affects only some (me). It reacts with statin drugs.

I recently posted the following on Fido forum, as an UPDATE on a Covid thread I started about antibody testing:
-----------------------------------------------
This thread was quite popular. I stated I would post new results when I got any. This is an update...
I had not received a second booster shot...UNTIL TODAY!
I (age 77)have been debating myself on getting a booster shot now, or waiting until the fall when the latest vaccines are to be targeted to the latest virus strain. I am planning to travel to a class reunion, by plane, and am concerned about my immunity levels. Recently, and independently, a brother, a sister, two daughters and one husband, and some friends have become infected with Covid.
I convinced my doctor to get another immunity lab check for me at Quest Diagnostics...done last week. Again, the result is surprising: NEGATIVE. A qualitive answer, instead of a number. Remember, I had a reading of 1.4 before booster last year (0-1 means no antibodies from either having Covid, or from a shot). After the (Pfizer) booster shot, the antibody reading was >150.
I called Quest and spoke with personnel, who confirmed at very low antibody levels, they give a qualitative result of NEGATIVE (versus a number). So, this means I have gone from >150, to having no measurable antibodies, in nine months.
After reading various articles, and reviewing with my nurse daughter, and all things considered, my spouse and I decided to get a second booster today (Saturday) which we did. No adverse reaction so far.
Of course, vaccines are complex things, and my body (according to pharmacist) has latent protection; that low antibody level does not mean zero protection. If I choose to get another antibody level test, after this second booster, I will report the results.
I also plan to get a third booster shot in the fall after the latest virus strain is the primary target of the new vaccine.
Best wishes all...
R48

Getting the updated booster tomorrow. Two guys I know, 28 and 50, had covid in the last 3 weeks and both were very sick. One coughing up blood. The other, 50 yrs old, out of work for over a week and was so sick, walking 8 steps from bed to the bathroom was a struggle. Oxygen drop to 92 during the 8 steps. He still has headaches and a cough but back to work. (He's outside, repairing machinery. Also, I think he's MAGA and unvaxxed.) As johnsmith's link emphasizes, it's not a cold.

I have an appointment tomorrow to get the bivalent booster shot. Another pharmacy's supply ran out last week. I had an appointment there, which they cancelled at the last moment. That vaccine was Moderma. This one is from Pfizer.

I received the Pfizer bivalent booster shot last Monday.
People ages 12 years and older are recommended to receive one updated Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster. - This includes people who have received all primary series doses and people who have previously received one or more original (monovalent) boosters.
- At this time, people aged 12 years to 17 years can only receive the updated Pfizer bivalent booster.

I am happy to see people taking steps to protect themselves. It's a great first step.
Remember to also: - wear a N95 Mask when indoors (shopping, meetings etc) Get a good N95 mask here: www.projectn95.org/collections/all (be clean shaven, hair/beards prevent N95 masks from working correctly; over the head band masks are better). - when going out to eat, find outdoor seating.

I plan to take my 2nd booster shot in October, but this bivalent shot has not been tested in humans, only in mice, and has no optimal effect.
