Some big CGs today … ugh. I gotta start indexing. My one GP fund, GISYX, was very tax efficient...until today. I wonder what led the fund managers to realize so many capital gains? Being closed, it doesn't seem likely that they were forced to sell to meet redemptions.

Fund being closed doesn't mean that holders cannot sell. M* Quote page for GISYX shows minor outflows in 2021/H2 and the fund must have sold positions with huge gains. MFO posted this link a while ago for distributions, www.grandeurpeakglobal.com/distributions

I should not really complain; my GP funds are easily the most lucrative and successful investments I have, and have blown most other things away. I believe they are doing something right. (I own Global MC, Global Opps and Global Stalwarts.)

MFO posted this link a while ago for distributions, www.grandeurpeakglobal.com/distributionsTrue. I sold down in Aug. 2021 when the fund grew to more than 15% over my planned allocation. It was a difficult decision though, knowing that if the fund sold off, I wouldn't be able to add back in.

An existing shareholder can add to the class of shares they hold - even at a brokerage (e.g., Fidelity).

I believe GP has hard closed some of their funds, either through intermediaries (semi-hard close) and/or directly (rock hard close). I'm not 100% sure of the details off-hand. I haven't added to GPMCX or GPGIX in a while.

Not according to Grandeur Peaks. www.grandeurpeakglobal.com/gisox-gisyx**Closed to new and existing investors through intermediary platforms. Retirement plans utilizing the Fund(s) may continue to invest in the Fund(s). The Fund(s) remain open to new investors who purchase directly from Grandeur Peak Funds.

I have added to GISYX in IRA at Fidelity more than once after it was closed to new investors. The latest was 2 months ago. It is not amusing to be confronted re the same information I repeated, especially when my original post was trying to help you. If you have GISYX in your Fidelity account, put in a trade and write back with your trade status. That would update the information I provided and would be useful to others. If you do not already have it in your account, it is a moot point. BTW, I am not peddling for GP.

I own two of their funds: GISYX and GUSYX, which cover my bases. I will stay with these, as long as they keep performing. If I ever exit GP, unlikely I will go back.

I hold GISYX at Vanguard and would need to sell something to raise the cash for an attempted GISYX buy, so I'll pass. Sorry that you are not amused that information from Grandeur Peaks conflicts with your experience at Fidelity. I'm glad purchasing a closed fund has worked for you and I'm sure you were not trying to mislead anyone, but it may not work for everyone.

Sorry to report that Vanguard will not let me add to GISYX.
