Stimulus Check Update: Here's Who May Be Getting Another $1,400 Check www.fool.com/the-ascent/personal-finance/articles/stimulus-check-update-heres-who-may-be-getting-another-1400-check/The article opens reading as follows: "Senior citizens are among the most economically vulnerable in the country. A letter sent by The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) Chairman Rick Delaney to Congressional leaders illustrates the situation faced by some seniors. The letter reads in part: "We've heard from thousands of them (seniors) who have exhausted their retirement savings, who have started eating just one meal a day, stated cutting their pills in half because they can't afford their prescription drugs, to list just a few of the drastic steps so many have had to take because of what inflation has done to them this year." "Many have written to us that 'our government has forgotten about us.'"

As someone once told me long ago; The golden years are golden for those who have the gold. It is tough to get a pay raise when you are 75 or 80 or more.

oldskeet , uncleharley , Does anyone really think a function of a Federal government should be to prop up pensioners after a lifetime of their own apparently poor spending choices? I’d like to know the facts that led any retiree to the dire situation they claim to be in now after 40+ years to figure out your possible future situation. So after all the stimulus money and a pending 5.9% SS raise even more? Why give out more money to those who couldn’t manage theirs for years. SS was originally a supplement never a pension. I’m all for helping the truly mentally, physically handicapped or otherwise impaired and those who never had the same opportunities as me though luck or fate. Food, clothing, shelter and healthcare is fine through charity or by taxpayers if they approve.

steelpony10, Does anyone? What's the over/under on that number? 50 million registered voters? 120 million US residents? Who doesn't enjoy largesse with the public treasury? Spent as I prefer of course. I know you meant that rhetorically. Please send up a flare whenever you think the national trajectory has changed.

But the government has jerked us around for so long creating false pictures of life. Don't get me started......

uncleharley, Your: As someone once told me long ago; The golden years are golden for those who have the gold. It is tough to get a pay raise when you are 75 or 80 or more. The government's plan was never for us to live that long. The original plan was 65-70 [and hopefully keep paying into SS until 70]. In case we haven't noticed, any hospital event is now costing >$25k and Medicare doesn't even cover the anesthetic over the age of 70. We have come a long way since then and you can be sure the next update [on both SS and Medicare costs/benefits] from the Government will not help our current " GOLDEN YEARS".... Live Long and Prosper....

Live Long and Prosper.... I’m sure you know about the teacher living in the chicken coop. So problems existed back then and you’re correct people started living longer as antibiotics were developed. Now vaccines are being developed for viruses. In my opinion Communism was getting a toe hold in the U.S. during the Depression promising everything. Roosevelt’s hand was forced with a push from his wife to help the elderly. This was the start of some socialism of democracy worldwide. I know it was sold as a supplement to retirement to improve living conditions of the elderly and if I remember correctly never be more than a tax of 1% of your paycheck. A Ponzi scheme and typical poorly planed program. Incidentally the last program on the list was universal health care but Medicare was only achieved by LBJ in the 60’s. There’s still work to be done stretching back 80 years. I guess the Constitution is a living evolving document still managed by dukes, earls and the king. 😏

Hi guys,
Sorry I have been slow to respond. I simply missed the tag.
Being a senior ... With the government doling out money I'm thinking that seniors need it as much as anybody.
And, How about student loan forgiveness? I'd like to see them make this retroactive back into the 60's and 70's for those of us that paid our way through college. There was no free ticket.
Seems it is now ... Free Money For Everyone for Health, Education and Welfare.
Why work?
