How it works. "Overall Average Signal calculated from all 13 indicators. Signal Strength is a long-term measurement of the historical strength of the Signal, while Signal Direction is a short-term (3-Day) measurement of the movement of the Signal." www.barchart.com/etfs-funds/quotes/SPY/opinionTo use, enter the ticker symbol into the signal generator and analysis tool and then read the results. The signal generator is currently set for analysis of the S&P 500 etf (SPY).

I must ask, does anyone use or have any real time experience with either of these T/A indicators when buying or selling equities? It looks like fun but I would be hesitant to depend on either alone to make a timely investment.

I use stockta a lot because it is simple & the conclusions are computer generated. It takes all of my bias's and emotions out of the decision. The site that I use the most is stockcharts.com but it is far more complex and the learning curve is more than what many people want to put into it.

A very worthwhile quote that applies to T/A as well as a lot of other methods; "In the end all indicators have limitations so we go with the preponderance of evidence,” Fritzi Koehler-Geib, chief economist at German state bank KfW, said."

I've followed Barchart for a few years, and keep a PF there on their watchlist tool. It helps me easily compare different holdings over different time frames.
I have never learned how to use it for buying and selling though. I can enter a ticker and it might be a 100% buy with strong direction and strength, but I can't see how early the trend is. Often with stocks, one good week can trigger positive signals for short, medium and long term. It might have a means for spotting a trend early, but I haven't been able to find it or figure it out.

Yahoo Finance has re-vamped their charting! I can't believe it. At first look, it appears to directly affect the T/A discipline I had set up making it (A) more cumbersome in some parts and (B) impossible for other views.. Looks to me they are trying to make free service dumbed down in order to sell an upgraded service..... but it appears to be the point where Yahoo and I part company for good.
Fortunately, I have my mainstay, the thinkorswim platform (very happy with it) -- but in the past I would always reference Yahoo in posting comments b/c it was a site everyone could easily access.
Damn.

Why would you use Yahoo when stockchart is the best FREE T/A site for many years? It also includes all the distributions while Yahoo doesn't. You can also compare CEF price including the distributions on a same chart with ETFs + mutual funds. The above 2 things are difficult to find anywhere. It is so good and quick I don't need to log in to my account to use a pro software. As I mentioned before, I love using the 3 line break indicator I can only find it in Stockchart.

I don't have much experience with using it and don't intend to. I do notice that it predicted only 1.98% drop for Sept. Pretty far off, unless I am not understanding what they are presenting on their charts.

But, on a day like today, everything has to be thrown out. I expect that $SPX will test 3320 soon because we have already tested 3600 almost twice.

Regarding Stockta, what is the maximum range of values in the "analysis" bar near the top? -1 to +1?
I've never wrapped my head around how to use short term- long term indicators. It seems long term will keep you in the market longer during declines, and be late to get back in again. Short term = more whipsaws. Once in a while you can find a TA that works well for a particular holding, Like weekly MACD for PDI, but with so many possible investments, it's all needles and haystacks.
