I have been using Recent Threads (instead of Recent Posts) here. I may be interested in a thread for a while, but may then skip (not open) it.
Usually, when one posts on a thread, one gets Notifications on updated posts if the Notification Settings are appropriate (Participated is Checked). That is what the PB Instructions/Guide say too.
But I have noticed that in multipage threads, Notifications don't come unless my posts are on the same page on which there are updated posts. That is, if my post on a multipage thread have rolled off the page, I don't get subsequent Notifications. This has both pros and cons. I will notify PB Support on it.

PB Support said that there is a limit of 30 threads or those within 30 days for which one gets Notifications at any time.
I have Notifications ON for threads that I Participate in (authored or responded) and Bookmarked. All that can add up to 30 easily.
Tagging a poster by Name/Username is the sure way for Notification. Assuming anything else may be hit or miss.
Anyway, a mystery solved by prompt PB Support response.

Feature – "Mark Read" for Threads
This for those who use "Recent Threads" instead of "Recent Posts".
When a “New” thread appears, Select it & from Action menu, use “Mark Read” with one of the options (Now, 1d, 1w, 1m, forever); works like soft-mute for the specified period – the thread will appear with updates, but it won’t be marked with distracting “New”.
Also, an entire board or the entire site can be "Marked as Read" from their pages but this is not convenient.
