Has anybody else taken a close look at the distributions from VMFXX?
I hold VMFXX in 6 different accounts. There has been recent activity in 4 of those accounts involving VMFXX. Either adding or redeeming shares over the past month.
However, two accounts have had no activity other than the monthly distribution being auto invested over the last few months.
Did a simple ratio: 12*Distribution/End of Month balance. Yes; it's a crude calculation. In one account this worked out to 5.3401%. The other account was 5.3986%
Hmmm; that amounts to about 1.1% difference between the accounts. These are sufficiently large accounts, so we are not looking at just a few penny's.
These are both E*Trade accounts. The distributions were realized 9/1/2023. Then on 9/5/2023, there was a "Cross Fund Reinvestment". For each account that reinvestment was 12.96% of the amount received on 9/1/2023. I have no idea as to what a "Cross Fund Reinvestment" is. Offering up this puzzle before calling them and being put on hold!
Notice that both 5.34% and 5.40% are substantially higher than what Vanguard has been reporting as their SEC 7 days yield.
7 day SEC yield is currently being reported as 5.27%. May have been slightly lower earlier in August. However, I believe these differences amounts to just a day or so of accurals. So, maybe this past month had an extra day thrown in.
I also hold VMFXX in a Vanguard account. That account had some activity though so a comparison can't be made. The distribution was realized on 8/31/2023. Okay; a day earlier is one small advantage of working with Vanguard. However, so far, there is no "Cross Fund Reinvestment". So, maybe that's just an E*Trade (or Morgan Stanley) feature.

This could be due to data rounding.
VMFXX distribution is stated to 6 decimal places. Many firms may just use 2-4 decimal places for balances. BTW, I found this to be a problematic issue with Yahoo Finance data for adjusted-prices, etc.
BTW, note that m-mkt funds also state a higher daily-compounded yield that is higher than the required 7-day SEC yield.
