Just a test to see if systems are working. The last post was 15 hrs ago! Found it strange this AM that M* was more active than Big Bang. Anyway, if posts OK, resume rest on the Labor Day.

Back here in Boston for a couple of weeks on family business, and also working remotely, and … just haven’t been paying attention to investing for a while.
Coincidentally, I need to call Fido because I had some trouble recently linking a bank account to one of my brokerage accounts.

I found that bank linking from Fido was only via phone call and took 7-10 days. I had to do this 2x, once for Fido 403b for RMDs, and another time linking a bank with Fido Brokerage a/c. When I complained that I could this online at their competitors, the Fido Rep just said that they take security vary seriously.
Fido also requires phone calls every year for taking the RMDs that can be dome online elsewhere. Fido Rep says that is because of my plan restrictions, but my employer plan includes both Fido 403b and TIAA 403b, and I have no such restrictions at TIAA 403b (where I just take RMDs online; and bank linking was possible online too).
I like Fido in many respects, but not on these.

yogibearbull, Strange that Fido treats RMDs any different than other transfers. I have auto transfers from my cash account to my bank every month which I set up online. I wonder why they treat RMDs differently, or perhaps they treat retirerment accounts different from brokerage accounts? Strange.

I manage my Moms RMDs at Fido. Have to call, which I thought was because they know it's me and not my Mom.
On the other hand, they do ask me about tax withholdings. Maybe they are enforcing phone calls for other purposes?

Fido is strict / painful about non-IRA retirement accounts (including enforcing frequent trading restrictions). So strange that when I linked my Fidelity brokerage account to my non-IRA retirement Fidelity account, they sent the request to a third party verification company to make sure it is legit (which they do if you try to link their non-IRA retirement account to any external bank account). The verification process takes 1 full week. I talked to a retirement specialist and he thought it was strange and submitted a ticket to bypass the process but nothing came of it.
(I previously had an online bank linked and Fidelity took two days to transfer the distribution and then I had to transfer the money to back to my Fidelity brokerage account; so, I was trying to directly link the brokerage to the non-IRA retirement account in the hope that the distribution will show up in my brokerage account the same day.)
So, if you have a distribution coming up and want to change the receiving account, plan ahead.
(I recall that a rollover of Fidelity 401(k) to a Fidelity IRA a few years ago was easier and did not ask for this verification process, presumably because the funds were still within Fidelity's control.)
