Wondering if anyone has used the online version of Quicken and let their subscription run out. My understanding is that it continues to work fine but you no longer get updates. My guess is that wouldn't really be a problem, and for me it wouldn't affect security because I have not linked quicken to any outside sites for downloading. I manually enter all transactions.
Just wanted to get any 1st hand experience if anyone has let their subscription expire and willing to share.
Thanks!
edit: sorry, probably should have put this in Personal Finance.

I have used Quicken for a long time. When they changed to "On Line" I tried to find an alternative and even asked for suggestions on the old M* forum. Nothing was as easy for me to use as Quicken so I continued to use it. Each time the subscription expires I do not re up it for several months. It always works OK except it will not update prices for anything such as stocks or funds but your records stay on your computer. The only other problem is they pester you with messages each time you open it.

i had an older version (2008 as I remember) that was installed on my laptop. It went unsupported a few years ago. I downloaded Quicken 2013, which was the last disk version (I think), for free. I only use the check register component. I joined the support community to find all of this out.

I use it to track everything since 1995 and use the calendar as my reminder for many other items. I enter everything manually and don't use any of the online features other than the quote download. I used to upgrade about every 5+ years. Sometimes I think I should have never gone subscription but I did. Once it went to subscription I let it expire but from what I remember it was so annoying getting it to work correctly with the pop ups etc... I renewed within a month or so. I'm good until Nov at which time I may try it again without renewing. Last time(s) it expired I just manually entered quotes about once a month.

Thanks all for your replies. I gather for my use, the popups will be my only problem. Other than downloading the original program with my subscription a couple years ago, I do not download anything. I may switch from deluxe to basic. In comparing the programs the only thing that would lose is the ability to have more than 1 budget. I can live with that.

I just downloaded it from here: www.quicken.com/support/how-and-when-use-intermediate-version-convert-older-versions-quickenI have been exporting my checking account data to an Excel file where I edit the budget categories assigned by my online banking system. Once a year I create pivot tables to summarize income and expenses by category. Not sure what the benefit of using Quicken might be, but I will check it out.
