As some of you know, I have a "rule" that no individual stock should constitute more than 5% of my portfolio. I hold only individual stocks, no ETFs or mutual funds. The stock that most frequently goes over 5% is Apple. Since I'm an income investor, when I sell a slice of a stock, I usually buy a good dividend-paying stock. In my Roth, I sometimes buy a "pure" growth stock. I recently bought some more Microsoft in my Roth
Apple reports earnings on Thursday, so I may soon sell another slice.
I may buy a new car next fall, as I'll have enough money coming out of the cds to pay for it.

kathiel , You inspired me to start owning individual stocks. If you do not mind my asking, what percentage of your total portfolio constitutes equities? Please include everything that is not equity like cash, bank accounts, CDs, fixed income, etc in the denominator. Thanks.

kathiel , Do you own DIS? Any thoughts on buying DIS now? If not, at price would you be interested in DIS? I bought some recently at $85.XX but not a full position thinking that there is plenty of time before the next earnings release and the price may go further down before then. I am betting on a strong management in a tough industry. I am seeing this as a Ford in the entertainment industry where NFLX is the TSLA.

anitya, I've never included all of my assets when figuring out the proportions of equities, cds, etc. When I speak of my portfolio being 100% individual stocks, I'm speaking of my long-term portfolio, my IRAs. I have quite a bit of cash right now, which I have put into CDs and a high-yield savings account I'm thinking we might want to buy a new car next fall (2024). I do have a taxable brokerage account, which is also in individual stocks. Steelpony, I do have some Amazon. I bought some last summer before the split, then I added to it several months ago. The Delahaye looks pretty cool. But it doesn't come. as an EV. I'd like to get an EV and Acura will be coming out with an EV next year. It won 't be as cool as a Delahaye.

KathieL
I was also inspired to buy dividend stocks by you. I read and respect everything you write.
My wife and I just took delivery of a Tesla Y yesterday. While the purchase process was not too enjoyable (you may be better with computers than we are), we like the car. We live in northern New Hampshire so we should benefit from the all wheel drive.

Congrats on your new car purchase, catdog,! steelpony10, Thursday's price moves made me wish I had more Amazon shares! My Apple is now down to 5% of my portfolio.

kathiel , One of the advantages (or disadvantages) of income investing is one settles for the bird in hand instead of the two in the bush. AMZN has been flat for awhile after a long run up so I would guess the next bull market you might still have a chance. MSFT, AAPL and AMZN are our only remaining single stocks. Probably legacy holdings. We spend them down for big ticket wants.
