Mustang I’m in the market for a new bike. I sold my BMW R1200GS before I left Thailand. I went to the HD dealer but I just didn’t like anything they had. I wish they still had something like the old Sportsters or Super glide from the 90s. Anyway, I’m looking at a BMW R-NineT Urban G/S (I know, the name is a mouthful). Retro and very sexy.

archer , 6.54 seconds in the quarter on a bike is more than I would have done. I applaud his effort and wish him well. chang , The BMW R-NineT Urban G/S isn't really my style of bike. A lot of the guys ride Road Glides or Street Glides. They like their comfort on the long rides. I've ridden my brother's Road Glide. It was too heavy for my liking. I was heavily influenced by the 1968 movie Easy Rider ( www.imdb.com/title/tt0064276/mediaviewer/rm592091136?ref_=ttmi_mi_all_sf_9 ) so I ride an older Wide Glide. I extended the forks a little and put in a 5 degree rake to level it out and added 18" ape hangers. I have to admit that I smile a little when my friends say they can't hear their radios when I ride beside them. Who needs radios? I had a friend who went with us on the Ride to the Wall on a Sportster. It didn't have the range of the bigger bikes and after a while it wore on him. He later bought a 100th Anniversary Softail. I've ridden it. Its a really nice bike. I looked up the BMW R-NineT Urban G/S. I've never tried it but I think it would wear on you on long rides. In the 2023 Harley catalog the closest I saw was the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250/1250 Special. I think I like the BMW better.
Edit: Why not buy an older bike and modify it the way you want. That's what I do.

From my limited experience as a much younger man, it's really a matter of what kind of riding you want to do. My older brother had a Triumph Bonneville in the early 70's which was the first bike I rode. More than an hour and my kidneys were aching from the vibration. Most of my riding was short distances so it wasn't much of a problem. A couple years later I bought a used '72 Norton Commando. It was much better for long trips due to the engine having rubber mounts. I imagine it was still harsher than a dedicated touring bike.
I was sorry to see the Indian come to an end. Even though it was Indian in name only, it was nostalgic to have the name on the road again. My Dad had a '37 4 cyl when I was a kid. Very quiet and never leaked oil even though it had no gaskets, just precision machine work. He sold it for $100 in the mid '60s. He ran into the guy he sold it to about 20 yrs later who was still riding it, and had refused to sell for $20K.

Mustang Well, I went to the HD dealer, and the truth is I kind of liked the Fat Bob. It feels pretty comfortable, not too stretched out. I wasn’t sure about that big front tire but I’ve read many reviews that say it handles well. It’s looks muscular as hell. I’m tempted…

This thread has veered of the road.
That is one risk of riding!
