Bad news for me. My entire portfolio is built around VPGDX as my core fund. Looks like it back to the drawing board.
Thanks for posting here, Mr. Baggins.

Next day after this announcement, I sold out my entire position(s) in VPGDX. Its a shame that Vanguard cannot make $1.2 billion fund work, and merging it into VSMGX, a bland fund-of-index-funds is beyond stupid when the multi-asset funds are picking up steam. When $1+ billion funds don't matter to a fund family, it may have gotten too big or lost. ybbpersonalfinance.proboards.com/post/935

Well, you are on right track for raising such a question. But you have to look at total assets in all classes. So, will Global Wellesley VGWIX (“only” 0.54 billion in 5+ years) or Global Wellington VGWLX (“only” $1.9 billion in 5 years) be the next to go?

What's perplexing is that Vanguard kept a very high minimum investment, $25,000, which may have made sense when VPGDX was a retiree decumulation fund but made no sense for a Investor Class balanced fund. I'm sure the high minimum was a barrier for many who might have thought the fund was a decent "one and done" option.

Vanguard Wellington had $105.6 Bil in total assets while Vanguard Global Wellington had $1.9 Bil in total assets. Since there is a larger opportunity set for the global fund, I don't think Vanguard will be closing it any time soon. There are different lead equity managers for these two funds but the lead bond manager for both is Loren Moran.
