Beware that your data is being shared with Facebook / Meta: "TaxAct wasn’t the only tax filing service using the Meta Pixel. Tax preparation giant H&R Block, which also offers an online filing option that attracts millions of customers per year, embedded a pixel on its site that gathered information on filers’ health savings account usage and dependents’ college tuition grants and expenses."

Thanks;
I've been a Turbo Tax customer for years. But, their software has not impressed me very much.
So, will try out H&R block when it come time.
I'll share my impression later, but look forward to hearing from others too.
One of my Daughter's BTW, just passed the first 3 of the CPA exams. Last year, with just a single exam under her belt, she prepared the tax return for somebody who earned over $50M.
She is smart, but it's scary to me that going to a real firm doesn't guarantee preparation by a CPA. (I'm sure a CPA reviewed her work though).

I've been using HR Block tax software for about 3 decades now. I like the product. It does everything that I need done. A couple of times I have looked into about changing to TurboTax; however, HR Block has always been less expensive.

A couple of times I have looked into about changing to TurboTax; however, HR Block has always been less expensive. I've used TurboTax Deluxe for over a decade through 2013 and was pleased with the product. Intuit, the makers of TurboTax, decided to remove the Schedule D form (other forms also) from TurboTax Deluxe 2014. Intuit did a very poor job of communicating these changes to their customers. The fact that the "800 lb. gorilla" of tax software took these actions was unacceptable. I switched to H&R Block tax software and haven't looked back. Link
Edit: The removed forms were restored in TurboTax 2015. Link

Fearchar , “ t's scary to me that going to a real firm doesn't guarantee preparation by a CPA. (I'm sure a CPA reviewed her work though).”
FYI - The Big 4 accounting firms do not require their tax professionals acquire the CPA designation or pass the exam. Outside the audit and/ or review of financial statement work, a CPA qualification is not meaningful to the service recipient.
edit: sorry, unable to get rid of the italics

I've used TT in the past, but now that I am retired my tax situation is simpler. TT Free edition isn't very clear on what forms it supports, but H&R's free version provides a detailed list, which appears to cover me. 1099-R 1099-Div and capital gains are all supported in their free version, as well as the 1095's for health. Also Schedule A,B,C,and E are supported.
I need very few of the above, but the short list above might apply to others here.

I used it until 2020 Tax-yer. I used TT for 2021 due to refinancing of my rental unit. TT came up with a table, where I had to fill in the numbers from the closing documents. A side benefit was that I just imported most of 1099-R (except for 1099-R from my state). I am going back to TaxHawk again because, if I load my 1040 from 2021, all the forms will be prefilled including 4562, and I just need to fill in my new numbers and my new 8949 sheets. If I fill in 10 trades in an hour in 8949, I can finish it in 5 hours. I will be done. I now have all the time. It is free.

Five hours??? I plan to do mine in less than one. I have all free time. So, it is ok to enter the data in 8949 (4 sheets—85 trades). In fact, they do not allow copy and paste of sheets. They want you to enter one data each time. There will be several hundred data points for me. So, it would take some time, probably 3-4 hours. It is free filing too. It is form filling like old days. I like it. Why? You can learn how to minimize your taxes, when you fill up line by line in the forms instead of uploading or downloading the 1099s into your tax return.
Do you know that all those 1099s are in the pdf format? To convert them to readable CSV format so that you can copy and paste, it would take some time too. But, I can download them in the CSV format in FIDO. I am not sure. I do not know it yet. I have all the data in ods/xlxs formats. Fortunately, I do not have to worry about Vanguard and I will not have so many data points either next year.
Add/Edit:
I already have my tax return ready until last week trade, all data filled up in the various IRS forms. So, I just need to verify the 1099 data with my data, make corrections if necessary, and “Copy-Paste.” I do not anticipate any more selling but only buying next week. But, I will have a lot of new Divs in my taxable/non-taxable accounts until the end of the year. That would keep me busy collecting the new data points. Vanguard accounts have been closed. So, it is easy to collect from FIDO.

Five hours??? I plan to do mine in less than one. +1 I do it under one hour including all my trades which I don't download because they are so a few in taxable. I also take the standard deduction since the last change during Trump. We never owned rentals, businesses, time share or a boat. But, if you are a busy bee doing trades 3 times weekly + own rentals + other businesses, it piles up.

We can enter the summary of the transactions and attach the details at the end now in TaxHawk. It is a big change. Just attach 1099. It will take only 10 minutes. I have signed up $7 Deluxe. I get almost instant help. My tax return is almost ready. I am waiting for the new taxable distributions this month. I have scheduled a payment for the end of the month. It is very likely that I have to pay more next month.
