Many countries are fleeing the effects of the strong dollar, making the global recession very likely in the near future. Of course, if we sneeze, the world gets the cold.
“A strong dollar makes a bad situation worse in the rest of the world,” says Eswar Prasad, a professor of trade policy at Cornell University. Many economists worry that the sharp rise of the dollar is increasing the likelihood of a global recession sometime next year.

ECE Prof , you do not seem to be investing in India / Indian stock market. Curious, Why? There are India ETFs if interested. Seems like with China ready to lose so much of global trade, India could be one of the countries to gain. India has good demographics and does not face trade restrictions from the west like China does. Apple is now producing iPhones in India. May be India will improve hardware capabilities /quality too.

No. I will never do it. I just read the news there, even some local news from the towns and villages there. Why? Good question. Many of the policies are made politically, and the politicians can easily change the rules. Russians have confiscated the Exxon's properties today. Do I want to depend on Xi? Definitely, no. Definetley not under the Congress ruled India, specifically the Gandhis. Modi, perhaps because he is taking a lot of steps to make them free trade, but not quite yet, in spite of the fact, its GDP could be #4 in the world now. Because, he has to watch his left flank too. In a democracy, it takes a long time to make changes.
By the way, I just now read the news here in Yahoo. There is a warning from our own guys on this now. Because, global inflation can cause problems for our own market because almost 40% of earnings of big companies come from outside.

ECE Prof, If you can not invest in India then you can not invest in any EM economy. my international exposure is less than 5%; so, I am not advocating anything specific. I was just curious.

Most of the news in the UK are about inflation, especially after today 10.2% report. When times are bad, the weak suffer more, and the gap increases. Don't you know, diversification is a must...never for me.

I had EM (VWOB and VWO) for two years and VEU for several years. It was red-hot for one year. I increased the amount, and kept falling and falling. Once it fell enough, with almost FD's total return, I got out. I never looked back, even in Europe (VEU). All local, VTI, VIG, VGT, VOO,... When FD says to get back into the market, I will use VOO and VGT again. Probably, add SCHD too.

I know that I can make more money here than anywhere in the world, because of the system, except for minor hiccups once in a while.
