Not sure that anybody is investing in LG nowadays. But I wanted to see how my funds are doing relative to the category. Mine are 5*, but in the bottom half of the category YTD.
FBGRX - 5★, 85th percentile YTD JENIX - 5★,53rd percentile YTD
VWUAX - 3★, 85th percentile YTD TRBCX - 3★, 88th percentile YTD FCNTX - 4★, 41th percentile YTD

Figures; what with growth taking the biggest bath. Have you thought as to why FCNTX and JENIX have fared noticeably better? Barring widespread portfolio movement, one would expect them to have been only moderately successful during the upswings as well? Let's see for 2020: FCNTX 54%; and basically mediocre all the time; JENIX 92%; either first or LAST quartile most years!! Under the circumstances, JENIX seems to have held up quite well relative to its history. FCNTX seems like a smoother ride and maybe more your comfort level?
Contrast this with the others which are currently doing poorly: FBGRX was strong over the last 11 years, mostly first and second Quartile, but has taken a big hit THIS year. VWUAX is also at 92% and has six first Quartiles and three last Quartiles; so good or bad, but mostly good. TRBCX has five firsts, four thirds and one fourth. Again, good or bad, but the swings aren't as wide. FBGRX looks the clear winner (to me).

But I must admit I am on the sidelines with LG right now. Not really being a timer but I couldn't watch my profits decline any longer in that fund. I only use that particular fund to garner CGs in my taxable and if it is not performing that function then I will wait.

One of the ways I handle the volatility is by keeping LG exclusively in my IRAs. Knowing that this money won’t be tapped for another 10-20 years, I can be sure that volatility doesn’t matter and not worry about trying to time buys or sells.
