I'm curious about what software youall use and what makes them special.
I like:
MalwareBytes - Free / Premium malware removing software (can also function as a anti-virus)
EmClient - Free / Premium email client, it is a great replacement for Outlook (which stinks) and has advanced features like creating regular backups, connect calendars, contacts to a whole ton of services.

johnsmith , I hate to start you off with my answer, zip. Sorry. I spent half my investing life with pencil and paper. I only carry my cell phone when I leave the house, rarely rarely text and just use an Ipad for entertainment, a sub for the yellow pages and to read. I use Google maps, Libby and read 4 newspapers a day. I also play Wordle and practice my poker skills. Investing seemed like a real easy problem to solve take some risks, don’t spend it all and reinvest the excess. Set something up that was simple and required little oversight as I aged and that my wife could follow if she wanted. Investing and the internet just isn’t a hobby or particular interest, just a tool. But I do think I know where my investing skills lie and I try to stay “in my lane”.

OpenOffice rather than Libre; one predates the other.
Plex and Sonarr for streaming videos, tv, and movies.
Macrium Reflect for backup.
STEAM for games.
Firefox (mostly) for browsing. Chrome isn’t bad either.
1Password for security.

"OpenOffice rather than Libre; one predates the other. "
I stopped using my "take home" office software ($10) even before I retired and started using the Open office for several years. I came across LibreOffice, and it is a lot better than Open Office in several aspects. Furthermore, I was also using LibreOffice's Draw. However, my granddaughter introduced me to Gimp. So, I use Gimp. In fact, you can learn a lot from your own younger generation.
I will never use Chrome because it is very leaky for passwords. The same is true of Edge also. There were several attempts to hack my financial accounts (even my Tenn. Retirement account). In fact, TCRS does not allow VPN, and checks with some facts about me before I log in now.

Is Open-Shell an improved version of Classic Shell? I'm using Windows 10 haven't had any issues with Classic Shell. I have several free back up programs but I can never remember which one I use as I don't back up as often as I should. When I get on my other computer I will try to post another suggestion or two. The help files in one of the programs mentions that there is a difference between syncing and backing up files. I back up my files to an external drive and make the files on the external drive match what's on the hard drive of my PC. Free File Sync allows me to compare what's on the two drives, add missing files to the external drive and delete files on the external drive that are no longer on my PC.
