I'm trying to apply for a Fidelity Signature Rewards Visa card, but am unable to do it (online) because the company/'website they outsource to (Elan) doesn't accept electronic applications from an overseas IP address, even though the address with Fidelity is a US address. I've tried using a VPN and also the Tor browser, but neither one helped. Any suggestions?

I use TunnelBear (500 MB free per month) to hide my IP address but that is also a VPN, which you have already used. Is the location of the VPN that you connected with located in the US?

The VPN I have tried is the one that comes standard with Norton. Maybe there is something better. I am reading up on these now, and the leaders appear to be ExpressVPN and NordVPN. I can try these with a 30-day money back guarantee, to see if they work.

I have read that NordVPN is very good. TunnelBear is not particularly good, but it serves my limited needs, and the free 500 MB reset every month. You can pick a country where the server is located and this feature may meet your needs.

As I understand it, you want a service with servers located in the country(ies) where the websites that you want to access are located. Not necessarily in the country where you are located. Is that right?

I have been using NordVPN (for other reasons than the OP). It works fine for me. Make sure that you connect to a server in the target county, e.g. US. (I have watched european soccer games that are otherwise blocked for US).

Bought and installed NordVPN. It turns out not to have solved the credit card application problem (which I solved another way), but I think it’s good to have anyway.

I have had issues with connecting to a large US bank via NordVPN. I contacted NordVPN (via Support email), and got a list of US servers that work with that bank. Then, you need to explicitly specify one of these servers when connecting via NordVPN.
I'm not sure whether that would solve your problem.

I’ve been having increasing problems with NordVPN. Unfortunately I bought a 3 year subscription, and after 30 days it’s non-cancellable. So I’m just going to swallow it, and try switching to ExpressVPN.
NordVPN is causing too many problems with internet access, WiFi access, and they keep sending me cheesy offers. It doesn’t feel very professional.

chang, I use McAfee Total Protection which comes with Secure VPN (Secure is in the name!). I have never turned the VPN on but wanted to check to see how and why you use VPN (other than the credit card application you mentioned in this thread). I am planning to spend a few months overseas. Do you use VPN to access from overseas all US financial institutions? Do you otherwise use VPN for security (other than trying to stay anonymous by way of hiding your IP address)? yogibearbull, any thoughts?

Yes, I’ve been using ExpressVPN for a while now.
