Regarding ads on this page, see here ... I'm just curious whether this makes any difference to anyone. The cost to me isn't much, $72 a year. On the other hand, that buys a nice dinner for two. I haven't had much, if any, feedback from anyone on the value of keeping the page ad-free. I found the ads a little annoying; but then again, there are a lot of things that are annoying, so adding ProBoards ads to the list wouldn't exactly move needle a great deal. Any feedback?

It has not been obnoxious to this point; so, speaking for myself, I don’t mind it. Btw, I like the snow!

I trust that my adblocker will do its job. Ads are a scourge upon humanity. I'll say no more.

I am fine also. I use AdBlockPlus ABP and it works great, and it is free.

I don’t use this, but this is good feedback. If everyone else is using it, then I’m wasting my money keeping this site ad-free.

I have gotten used to ads at other PB sites, so it doesn't matter if THIS forum is ad-free or not. BTW, it is against PB TOS to use ad-free for PB sites. But it is not clear what happens if it detects that someone is using them but it can cause login issues. After all, PB is a free ad-supported site. It sells ad-free for forums (at reasonable prices, like chang has been buying it) and also personal ad-free (at outrageous prices). IMO, these may be thought of as "donations" for the struggling PB business (it was taken over recently by Canadian VerticalScope). Some PB forums ask members to voluntarily pitch in for the ad-free costs but the mechanics of that money collection can be complicated.

You don't have ads? My ad blocker is blocking something when I come here.
I have an ABP icon at the top of the screen. It counts the number of items blocked every time I switch pages. It currently shows that it blocked 3 items just going to Quick Reply page. It blocked 11 just opening the first page of the site. That is not nearly as bad as some sites. One that I go to it blocks 49 ads just opening the first page and the count goes up the longer you stay on the page because of pop ups. I will not even go to that site without ad blocker. I cannot read anything because I'm constantly clicking off ads just to get them out of the way.
Some sites say they require ad blocker to be turned off. I won't do that so I won't go to those sites.
I wouldn't need ad blocker if sites kept ads to one side but that one site has them constantly popping up in the middle of the screen so that I can't read anything. The only thing they really do is just make me angry.
Good luck on ads. Whether you keep members or not will depend entirely on how you implement them.

Whether you keep members or not will depend entirely on how you implement them. There are no ads on this site. I don’t know what your ad-blocker is blocking.

My ABP shows 0 items blocked on this site. But my 'Disconnect' app shows 3 attempts.
Also, I was not aware of PB policy. I will gladly disable ad block.

I don't use an adblocker and want to express my thanks and appreciation for the $72 you spent to keep this site ad free. More importantly, you have created a great forum which I would continue to visit if it had a few ads. CEFAnalyizer is an example of a website that has become over-run with ads. But I still go there for the value it provides. I would enjoy it more if I didn't have to click through all the ads.

There’s a ton of variables to this topic. Desktop vs mobile, what browser etc. Using desktop, this site has 2 trackers, another investing Pro Board has 6 trackers, for example. For the cost associated, imho it’s a small differentiator but it is one. As liftlock says… thanks. FWIW - I use a desktop browser that blocks all pop ups and ads, and trackers … and there’s no issue with 99% of all sites I visit. But when using iPad, I see the ads on the other sites. No ads on desktop.

Like others, I use adblocker ultimate (free) so I don't see the ads on other Proboards forums, just clear space at top and bottom of each page. Other Proboards forums just have banner ads at the top and bottom which are not that annoying. I agree with liftlock about how obtrusive the ads are on CEFANALYZER.COM. Thanks for this discussion board and the attention you give to it.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems like almost everyone is using ad blockers. I'm going to cancel the ad-free status for a while, and see whether it bothers anyone (including me). If a sufficient amount of abuse is hurled at me, I will consider re-instating it.

I appreciate lack of ads in this forum. I do not think I will use adblocker or ABP because I like to keep my computer as clean as possible. While I enjoyed ad free on this site, am OK if we start seeing ads.

chang , while I do enjoy not having the ads, I hope you and a special person enjoy the extra dinner each year. Appreciate you having this place for us all. As for the ads, folks (mostly the folk I'm married to) tell me that I have a very powerful ability to ignore stuff I don't care to see; and, I have to agree that she is right.
