Somehow (again) some of my earlier posts have deteriorated and are not correct. Here is a repeat and what should be on this board....
My [single opinion] 2cents after more than 60Yrs of investing:
...1... Many of us "always" take some money off the table when holding CapGains [never a buy/hold forever environment [lessons we learn the hard way] in a ever-changing market [with too many variables]....
...2...Many of us buy/sell favorable and unfavorable sectors of the market [never >6% in any one investment after dollar cost averaging in a "up" process]. We "try" not to sell CapLosses [because a investment is down during a correction] but will for a better investment opportunity....
...3...We never do "NOTHING" in a ever changing market or in a increased/decreased "RISK" environment. When uncomfortable with current "RISK", many of us build "CASH" by taking some additional CapGains off of the table. Some of us are currently 15% cash and have reached our goals and objectives for the year....
Disclosure [COB Friday]: Currently some of us are in 20 different sectors of the market [sector being defined as different from another security which most are]:
[Using excel worksheets]:
...1... Sell Codes [defining 0 to >7 when to sell securities in current portfolio]:
0-no risk
1-low risk
2/3-some normal risk
4-neutral
5-at risk [use of wash sale if in taxable account possibility]
6/7-very risky
>7-beyond reasonable risk
---2... Report Card Grades [0-100 rating]:
>89 [perfect analysis scoring]
80-89 [very good]
70-79 [average]
60-69 below average]
50-59 [marginal fail - possible reduction of shares being held]
<50 [failing - re-analze current position for reducing shares or total sale]
...3... Portfolio "RISK" % [% of portfolio that shares are being held]
0-2% - no risk
2-4% - low risk
4-6% - normal risk
6-8% - at risk
8-10% - high risk level
8-10% - "VERY" high risk [normally taken for a runaway security [to the upside] in the market where both high div and "CapGain is in play"]
Bottom Line: Our excel worksheets should define [1] initial buying methodology of 0-2%, add-on shares to 6% maximum, analysis Report Card Grading of some sort, and when to sell indicators [IMHO]....
Live Long and Prosper....
