What was the reason for todays drop. It was poised for a significant bull run, but now the daily chart shows about 30 points of strong resistance to work thru. As a rule I do not buy falling knives, but sometimes they work if one is patient enough.

As a rule I do not buy falling knives, but sometimes they work if one is patient enough. "Why Lockheed Martin Stock Dropped Today" finance.yahoo.com/news/why-lockheed-martin-stock-dropped-214757775.html- Lockheed Martin easily beat estimates on revenue and earnings for its fourth quarter of 2023.
- But the company also issued mixed guidance for 2024, pushing back the expected delivery of its first upgraded versions of the F-35 fighter jet to Q3.

Eh. No help from my corner. Short term far too volatile for any kind of technical reading. EPS: 27.37 Projected EPS 28 Projected next quarter 5.90 Analyst consensus: neutral MLynch: neutral HOWEVER -- Tipranks (which is up-to-date) gives it a very strong 9/10 (Against the general grain) If I were determined to make a play with LMT (with TipRanks in mind) I might check short term options, which have certainly spiked with the volatility on today's air pocket. Possibly sell OTM puts a month out in time. That's a big "if" though. Recent LMT support has been down around 400. Indicators useless. Not my cup of tea -- which probably makes it a sparkling buy oppty.

If you get a chance to go see an F35-b at an airshow, it's impressive. The B variant is short take-off, vertical, it hovers. And it's loud.
Individual defense stocks are, like biotech, too much for me to keep up with. Might try a defense ETF. ITA is the biggest, I think but one might do some research on them.

Yes, ITA. Boeing concern is shared. Volume has dropped and it's held up pretty well. Boeing is flying a 737 Max to China for delivery as we speak! (Gonna take more good news than that.)
Good writing from Bloomberg: "Just days into 2024, that renewed optimism was sucked right out of a gaping hole in the side of a Boeing 737 Max 9. On Jan. 5, the desk-sized cover for an optional door was cleanly ejected from the almost-new aircraft, exposing 177 people on board to the fear of being pulled into the evening sky at 16,000 feet (4,900 meters)."
The fundamentals are bad. Only thing it has going for it is it's the only game in town, as it and Airbus are booked. The MRO guys might be worth looking at. GE and I think Delta are two. Saw an article on another but forgot what it was.

Has Boeings product problems made LMT relatively more attractive as an investment than it was??

From Wells Advisors - currently Equal Weight
Upcoming Catalysts • The government must pass a long-term funding bill or CR extension before the current CR expires. If a long-term budget does not pass by April, there is risk spending could be cut based on provisions in the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
• The Air Force plans to select the winner of the NGAD (Next Generation Air Dominance) program in 2024, where LMT is competing with BA for the prime contractor role
Further out, LMT could benefit from higher munitions production as it is building out capacity to support faster post-Ukraine restocking

Has Boeings product problems made LMT relatively more attractive as an investment than it was?? I asked the same question when I read some while ago that the DOD was putting a large contract for unmanned bomber planes out to bit, and LMT and BA were among the the 4 or 5 potential bidders. BA certainly feels “damaged” to me, but then I can’t really say. I wouldn’t want a bomber whose bomb bay doors were prone to fall off. I might add a few more shares to LMT this week just to bring my position up a bit.

From a chartists standpoint, I would like to see the price of LMT rise above 440 before I bought and then only as a long term investment and after a good look at their ability to take advantage of long term prospects.

uncleharley Yep I think you’re right. I bought a little at $435 and then some more (sorry retiredat48 will chastise me) at $427. So I want to see a 5% move up from $427 i.e., $448. But that’s just an arbitrary target based on my last buy.

LMT guided down for the year in the last call, relative to the last. EPS year-over-year to be between $25.65 and $26.35, where it was 27.55 most recently. Analyst earnings revisions are down, obviously, since LMT told them so. Slight delay in the next gen of capabilities for the F-35. But I like LMT. Low beta, good to own in a down mkt, whenever that happens. And like I said, the F-35 is amazing to see in action.

Trying to adhere to a “PUP” strategy with LMT, so I think another buy is in order here. Even though we’re supposed to sell in May…

anovice: Not specifically, but around 5% or so? I bought at $435.29, $428.57, and $444.00. Currently at $467.55 it is 5.3% above my last buy. Hence, now seems about right.

Forgot to buy yesterday, which may be just as well as futures are down. OTOH, LMT often moves in the opposite direction to the S&P.500. Will see what today brings.
