+1 on the auto racing. I like watching formula 1 races. It a much more physical sport than it looks. The drivers have intensive workout routines needed to handle the G forces. Ever notice their necks? I agree. I'm sure formula 1 is the same but the drivers' heart beats will stay in the 140+ range for over 4 hours peaking around 170. They wear a fire suit and the inside of the car can reach 140 degrees. Not only do they have to deal with the G forces but they drive the cars at the very edge of out of control. If they don't they lose to the driver who will.

... Maybe it's me, but I do feel sport stars of yore were more accessible, more personable than today's jocks. Jimmy Conners, McEnroe, Ali, Billie Jean King Larry Csonka, Borg, Bart Starr, Yogi Berra, The Mick, Ken (The Snake) Stabler, Crissy Evert, Frazier, Fran Tarkenton (I could go name dropping for an hour) -- they all have personas crystal clear in our memories as if they were starring today. But with a few notable exceptions (like Mahomes and Rogers) I don;t have the slightest image of today's players. Are they more distant and bland because of the massive wealth? Or are they all corporatized? The game of football is faster than it used to be; much lighter protective padding, receivers built like cheetahs and linemen bulked up on steroids -- but personalities all seem to fade into a vulgar kind of sameness. I take it you are not on social media such as facebook, with any of the sports stars! A very different world of communicating exists for athletes. Many active ones (like the Kelce brothers/football) have weekly podcasts even during the season. And if you hang with Taylor Swift, even more communicating. R48

Some things not mentioned.
--One of my favorite sports to attend is polo...world class polo. Horses running extremely fast, great hand eye coordination reqd. Sport is dominated by south americans/hispanics. Polo is extremely dangerous; it has I think the top death rate. We lose about one player a year due to falls/horse falls on them. Polo is four players, one on each side being the sponsor/rich person who is balanced by counterpart in low talent level. The other three teammates do the lions share of polo.It would be like in hockey, the team owners had to play for each team, in one position.
--I have a "hole-in-one" on the golf hole I live on. Know any others doing this?
--I like to both attend, and watch on TV, top horse races such as triple crown ones. Small or large betting makes it interesting as well. A dangerous sport also.
--I never learned to pass a basketball; perhaps why I hold my high school scoring record with 38 points in one game!

One sport I never understood the popularity of is Pro wrestling, especially after wrestling in Jr high and high school where wrestling was real. I'm not knocking the pro wrestlers as athletes, but just don't get why people want to watch it knowing it's fake.

In Saving Private Ryan, who among us wasn't in knots of agony as Mellish struggled beneath the German driving a knife into his heart while Upham stood frozen and useless on the stairs just outside, listening to the screams, with a loaded M-1 in his hands? We know the actions are staged but our emotions are real. It's a phenomenon as old as ancient Greek theater.

We had great seats at Cameron Indoor for a decade but gave them up during the pandemic. It's a great environment, and the crazies come up with clever chants based on the teams we play against. We now rely on our suppliers and friends for tickets, including floor seats next to the Duke bench. Saturday's game against Clemson was one of the most exciting games to come along in a long time. Duke down by 1 point with 1 second to go. Final score; Duke 72 Clemson 71.

I do know what 15 501 is; it connects several of my Durham-based businesses. I have indicated on M* that I am a Duke BB fan. Big game coming up this weekend. Duke/Carolina will have more viewers than any other college BB game this weekend, just as in past years.

HS granddaughter won a tri-city audition and will play a violin solo in front of the Duke String Orchestra before a large crowd. She is a regular on that orchestra. R48
