Great idea for a thread. Right now, I am committed to buying more North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon, 2021 from Sawtooth Ridge. It is an excellent California wine. I bought a case just to have some in my cabinet for that special occasion. When trading volume returns to the stock market on Monday I may have a short or two, but we need some trading volume first.

unclecharly - sorrry, all for perpetuating the divergence, but I'm having trouble figuring out what the winery is. Is it North COast Wine Co. or something else, like Rockslide. North Coast could mean just that that, a geographical area and Sawtooth Ridge is the name of a cab from Rockslide Winery but it could also be just that, a ridge named sawtooth with partuicular climate and soil. If it's a bit of land, I'm not finding it.

The label also says "North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2021" implying to me that is the name of the wine. The back label says bottled by Rockslide Vinyards, Napaca. They have a website address of ROCKSLIDEVINYARDS.COM. Be careful, that stuff is smooth. We should take any further questions or discussion to the Off Topic board.

OK, will look for this wine. All over it for $25. I had no idea an AVA could contain other AVA's. North Coast wouldn't have meant a cab area to me but wow, so many other AVAs within the North Coast that reach far inland. Sawtooth ridge is an area in the Sierra Neveda popular with climbers, so there's a Cali angle on the name. I usually stay away from ordering wine online due to delivery issues, heat during transport and I live next to wine country there's lots in stores. If I can't find it in the store I'll try ordering. Dry January coming up. I used to say, "Show me a two day month and I'm in. At least pick February.", but my wife wants it.

A friend in business very close to wine, bottles, gave me a bottle that I looked up to cost $70. I asked her what I should buy to drink with it for comparison, a cheaper Cab that's good and she said Rodney Strong. Not sure I got what she was thinking but it was $45 and I didn't think either was that great. Back in the day, 1980's, when I first came to San Fran I could get a good Dehlinger Cab for $5, which is $14 in today's dollars but the estate Cab is $108.

I can tell the difference between a $12 wine and a $25 wine but I can't taste the difference between a$25 wine and a $100 wine.

I've mostly moved on to Pinot Noir, which has become popular but still nowhere near as spendy as Cab. My wife is a cheap Chard expert - current pick is Bogle for $7.
I've had some terrible Pinot, far too sweet. All over the map. That Sorjourn I mentioned is very good but I think it's a bit expensive for every day. $50 something or so I think it was?

I have a problem with wine. I never want to drink more than a glass, and my wife hardly drinks at all, so it seems a wasteful shame to open an entire quality bottle, knowing it will be stale in 24-48 hrs. (Confession -- I can't tell the difference between a bottle I opened an hour ago and one that's been open three or four days. But everyone tells me that any good wine is ruined after uncorking several days, so I suppose it must be so.) The past couple of months I've settled on Black Box Pinot Noir, which tastes OK with dinner to this untutored palate, but am going to give their Merlot a go. When out, about and in doubt, I never go wrong with Diet Coke.

I look forward to tasting the Sawtooth Ridge cab. Have you tried Chris Phelps' "Ad Vivum" wines from the Napa Valley? Pricey, but extraordinary in my opinion. advivumcellars.com/winemaker/We're on Crete and, of course, we're drinking Greek wine. The Douloufakis winery's "Aspros Lagos" (White Hare) cabernet isn't bad at all, though it's challenging to match California quality. The winery is in Dafnes, just off the road to Heraklion. We buy there. About €12 for the cab, including our VAT discount. Possibly the best red we've tried is from sunny South Australia, a winery with very old growth vines. It compares to the best California products. Good value considering California prices.

I guess they have a target audience with particular tastes... or do they think that folks will buy it as a joke gift?

Its kind of odd I really don't like chardonnay but I realy like chablis which is the same grape (?!). Have not found a good CA chablis but I keep looking, prefer wines under 20/25$ which is a problem for me finding a good chablis.

Any "good Chablis" is a real Chablis, meaning it comes from the Chablis region of France. So you will not find a good California Chablis. Indeed, anything from Califonia that has a Chablis name on it will be a cheap Chardonnay. And yes, the grape Chablis is made from is Chardonnay.

Indeed, anything from Califonia that has a Chablis name on it will be a cheap Chardonnay. And yes, the grape Chablis is made from is Chardonnay. The issue with a California "Chablis" is partially the comparatively young age of the Chardonnay grapes, but more the particular calcareous soil of the French Chablis region, plus its relatively cool weather. Of course, Chablis also has its traditional wine production process. You can find a drinkable Chablis for under €20, while the old growth, hand-picked stuff starts around €50. I particularly enjoy some of the whites from Sancerre and (across the river) Pouilly. Their clean, mineral qualities are a joy! If you go do wine tasting there, they'll talk mainly about the soil characteristics, which vary from one parcel to the next. Wine tasting in Sancerre. Note the prominent display of local rock: Advantages of having a French girlfriend who's in the wine business ... I can pretend to be an expert.🍷🧐

Norbert: Sancerre produces an excellent red. If you like light reds like Pinots, it's definitely worth trying. There's a shop on Primrose Hill that stocks one for ~ £33, which unfortunately is more than I want to pay for a bottle.

My favorite, everyday dinner wine is Decoy, a full bodied cabernet, from Duckhorn (California) for only $20. Been enjoying it for years.

I’ll throw in this blend grown in cold climates of 2 grapes, 1 sweet one dry. We go to this area of Canada, the worlds ice wine capital, to meet friends and relatives and to see a few plays. Also grown in Michigan, New York and Oregon. www.riverviewcellars.com/shop/shop-canada/. 2021 Foch-Boca Noir at this winery. I think it’s the only one doing the blend so far. Scroll down it’s on the left. I found this to be a great red wine at $20 and change Canadian. Unfortunately you’d need to ship it to your favorite wine shop or packaged alcohol store.
