news.yahoo.com/israel-one-worlds-highest-daily-144237591.htmlIsrael's COVID-19 infection rate has doubled in the past two weeks. The country is seeing a new surge in cases despite early success with the Pfizer vaccine. The protection afforded by vaccines may wane over time, especially for older groups. See more stories on Insider's business page. Israel, once a global leader in coronavirus containment, has one of the highest daily infection rates in the world. Nearly one in every 150 people in Israel today has the virus. An average of nearly 7,500 people are infected per day - double the infection rate of two weeks ago. The new surge has Israeli leaders scrambling to bring back mask mandates and restrict gatherings as case rates come close to the worst days of last winter.

Why is Israel reluctant to require 12-20 year olds to get vaxed? No mention of below 12 year olds being masked in school. I always thought of Israel being a very compliant country. Both are issues here.
It’s beginning to feel like vaccinations and masks will be required continuously just to keep infection rates down because of variants. I don’t see any country winning the war.

Israel helps us see what's coming everywhere else, since they were first with vaccines. New info:
- Pfizer efficacy fades after several months; boosters are required;
- It's mostly the unvaccinated who are getting very ill;
- Delta and whatever next variant is coming are extremely contagious;
- Young people can also become ill;
- Vaccinated persons can still carry the virus.
There's a new French vaccine that may do better dealing with new variants. It's in Stage 3 testing and the UK has ordered 100 million doses. Stay tuned.
I'm hoping to sneak over to the US for September, before retreating to my island ahead of the Winter surge in infections. (Flights are cheap, since Europeans are not allowed entry to the US.)

I don’t envy those marathon flights. I flew in June and will next week then I’m done.
