This fund manager’s record of outperformance is stellar — and he’s willing to share his system with you( link) It’s great to try to learn from high-profile investment masters such as Warren Buffett. But don’t make the mistake that we in the media make by focusing too much on Buffett and a few other legends. Otherwise, you’ll miss out on key investing lessons from other pros with stellar records, especially those in the investment business in more recent years. Consider Josh Bennett and his team at Alger Weatherbie Specialized Growth Fund ALMAX, -0.18%. Never heard of them? Let me bring you up to speed. Trust me, it will be worth your time. I share six key investing tactics, below. But first, the numbers. This fund is up an annual average of 25.5% over the past five years. Lesson 1: Stay loyal to your system Lesson 2: Go small Lesson 3: And go for growth Lesson 4: Look for companies with sustainable competitive advantages Lesson 5: Check for proven management Lesson 6: “Pleasantly boring” can be a thing of beauty

I think I'm missing something. ALMAX's LT record looks fairly mediocre. It trailed its MCG index up until a few months ago. (Of course, TR figures are notoriously ambiguous, being highly sensitive to start and end dates.) Rolling returns are always more useful: its record was poor during 2013-2016 (and just average before that); it had good years in 2017-2020, which brought it back to about "average". It trails the S&P500 over every time frame. M* classifies its ER as "Above Average". Three managers with less than $500k invested -> they don't eat much of their own cooking, as M* used to say. This is the kind of fund I've looked at and forgotten about a hundred times. It might be good for "momo" fund traders ... good luck to them! Incidentally, I don't trust people who think that their academic degrees (especially PhDs) are a part of their name, e.g., Joshua D. Bennett, CFA, George A. Dai, Ph.D., Ed Minn, CFA. www.morningstar.com/funds/xnas/almax/quote

FD1000 , Everyone on here has a system. Depending on the three unknowns thousands might work. You pretty much described our “system”. Basically I looked at it as a problem to solve, a puzzle. Over 40+ years it was just refined as new products came out and the cast of characters changed. So for snicks with 60% of our portfolio in CEF’s, munis and cash our systems’ total portfolio value increased 47% the last 4+ years or nearly 12% a year. With a personal inflation rate below 3% it looks like we’re compounding about 8% in gains and yield a year for possible future use….or to pass on to heirs or give to a LTC facility. That’s why I don’t work too hard at this. It’s that possible further use term I can’t answer. But it does allow us to spend freely. So maybe that’s the answer right there. That indicates to me if you believe my numbers if this 60% was also invested in growth the last 4+ years I might be one of the unknown investing geniuses you refer to instead of an aging back woodsman. 😷

We use the Boglehead system since Jan 2006. 15 yr 8 mo at the end of Aug. We love it. We KISS & STC. We've been investing for 38 years in the world financial markets.
Started out slicing and dicing. At one time we used 6 equity ETFs. Now we use 1 TWSM UCITS ETF (VWRD). Paired with 1 TWBM UCITS ETF (AGGU).
A 2 fund port. 50% VWRD + 45% AGGU + 5% CASH.

galeno, I salute your persistence. You obviously do not get distracted.
Someday when I get too senile to type anything on BB I hope to reconfigure to what you have done.

You might want to do it sooner. I feel a great storm is coming. I'd rather be driving a basic 4X4 vs a Lamborghini when the roads flood. galeno, I salute your persistence.
