One of our members has told me that he is periodcally getting a "Time is up" message when trying to post. He hasn't made clear exactly what happens; he mentioned that it happens " every time I log on". I normally stay logged on all the time, but that's no excuse for a login error. In the spirit of M* I advised that he try clearing his cache. (Which they always say solves problems, but never does.)
Has anyone else experienced an error of this kind?

I often stay logged on for hours until my PC is shutdown for the day. I have not experienced this issue.

Actually, that is the message one gets on having cursor on the post Edit button of his old post. Most sites have 24 hour default window for Edit, but I think chang extended that on this site. Sometimes, there is an error indicated on login, but then just click logout and try login again.

chang, Not looking for you to do anything but since we are sharing bug experiences, likely there are bugs in the thumbs up button. More often than not, for me, the first click highlights the button and requires a second click to see the text "anitya like this" appear. I can usually undo the "anitya like this" by clicking again on the thumbs up button but am not allowed do it on your post in this thread.

Not much I could do anyway - the "Like" button is a standard PB feature, not an add-on that I could adjust. I cannot replicate the bug you are experiencing. I tried "liking" and "unliking" some posts, and it works OK. It does act a little slowly, so I see a small delay (almost one second) between the mouse-click and the appearance/disappearance of the "Like".

anitya, You, and others, are doing much better than I am. I haven't been able to use the "Like" button at all. I guess the website's program doesn't want too much "short type" comment statements.... Live Long and Prosper....

anitya, no, but I now use Recent Threads. After a while, I don't even open some threads.

chang , Since I view the Forum using Recent Posts, I was wondering if there is an option to block posts on a thread from appearing on my Recent Posts view. I am guessing not but thought I would ask anyway. Apologies if I asked this question before. A I also use the "Recent Posts" view 99% of the time. (I am glad someone appreciates my putting a "Recent Threads" and "Recent Posts" button on the top menu bar!) I do not believe you can block/ignore a particular thread, or hide it from appearing on the "Recent Posts" view. There is one option I have, called "Enable Falling", which prevents a thread from being bumped to the top when replied to. I think I know which thread you are referring to, and I have just taken that action. (I prefer not to "lock" threads, which annoys everyone.) Hence, it will no longer be bumped. (No great loss, as that one is irretrievably hijacked.)

chang, "Enable Falling" feature should be used more often for threads that seem off-topic or seem to veer off. It may also serve as a mild warning before a seriously offending thread (or heading that way) could be locked or deleted.

It may also serve as a mild warning before a seriously offending thread (or heading that way) could be locked or deleted. Using "Enable Falling" tends to kill a thread, so it's not a great remedy if a good thread has just been disrupted by a few off-topic posts ... it makes it hard to get back on topic. If an otherwise good, valuable thread appears to get sidetracked, I prefer to move the OT posts elsewhere (a very mild form of censorship). "Enable Falling" seems to be a remedy only when a thread never really goes anywhere and just attracts a spiral of OT posts. If things get truly out of hand, it can be locked, of course. Fortunately, these incidents have been extremely rare here.

anitya , no, but I now use Recent Threads. After a while, I don't even open some threads. Yogi, I tried to use Recent Threads, Yogi, when you switched to it from Recent Posts. Unless I was not using Recent Threads view properly, too many steps compared to Recent Posts. Also, I have to remember where I left off each thread on my previous visit. Trade off was putting up with some annoyance of flow not being so smooth in the Recent Posts view. I chose to stay with the latter for now. Thanks. I will just increase my use of the Ignore button for now. Chang, Thanks for the Enable Falling. Even if it does not help the Recent Posts view, it sure should help the Recent Threads view. I do not think it annoys anybody if you are pushed to lock a thread but locking threads accomplishes nothing. It may give you a bit of a breathing room to get ready to lock another thread but nothing more. Thanks. A

chang, is the Editing window still 7 days (6/30/21) ? Does that apply to post Deletions too? I remember seeing some posts that disappear later. I just want to make sure that I am not imagining things. At some point, post Deletions become disruptive to threads. I think that the Plugin that you are using doesn't allow unequal time for Edit and Delete. IMO, 7 days may be OK for Edits, but rather long for Deletions. So, a compromise has to be found. Of course, posters can always ask you to Delete if their posts have gross errors, or if they posted something that they think they shouldn't have (i.e. beyond the allowed Edit/Delete time). At most sites, even without Delete option, posters can Edit out the text and replace it with -d- or "Deleted by OP". This if you decide to eliminate the Delete option and keep only the Edit option (Plugin allows that).

At most sites, even without Delete option, posters can Edit out the text and replace it with -d- or "Deleted by OP". This if you decide to eliminate the Delete option and keep only the Edit option (Plugin allows that). The plug-in says: "This plugin allows you to set a time within which your members can edit and or delete a post." The current setting is for 2880 minutes (48 hours). It was never 7 days; see this post: big-bang-investors.proboards.com/thread/2575/time-window-delete-posts-increased The time window has been increased from 24 hours to 48 hours.
The purpose of a limited time to edit posts is to avoid excessively late editing of posts, which can disrupt the continuinty of a thread. When someone replies to a comment, they don't expect it to change materially afterward.
After 48 hours, a poster should probably make a new comment if they have something else to add. If an older (than 48 hrs) comment really needs to be changed or deleted, just let me know.
I agree with you about delayed changes and deletions being disruptive, hence the current limits, which seem to be working OK.

chang , thanks. I missed your post about 24 hrs to 48 hrs change. That is a reasonable Edit/Delete window.
