fishingrod , very short, very specialized short junk. River Park picks up junk in the last few months of its life where the borrowers have shown their ability to pay. chang , maybe a starting position in zero coupon treasuries since inflation is getting worse. I know it's only $10k but maybe between you and your wife can double it. Possibly INFL or tips since I think inflation is here to stay a while.

RPHIX not acting so well lately. Normally the fund adds $.02 per month to cover the div. It dropped $.01 yesterday after not adding anything during the month. Today or Monday it will drop another $.02 for the div. Don't fall in love with it!

Update, see the 6m chart: "Safe" and cheap VUSFX is trailing RPHIX and RCTIX over the last 6m ... badly. Anyone recommend exchanging VUSFX for the other two? I hold a lot of VUSFX; an equal amount of RPHIX, and a lesser amount of RCTIX. Opinions appreciated.

With so many investors holding cash instead of fixed income OEFs and brokerages paying nothing on money market funds, what are the best online savings accounts forum members are using? Are there any effective alternatives to online savings accounts, without compromising liquidity? I have used Capital One forever and now it pays only 0.4% per year. May be the link below is useful too - www.nerdwallet.com/hub/category/banking?trk_location=breadcrumbs

May be the link below is useful too - www.nerdwallet.com/hub/category/banking?trk_location=breadcrumbs Holding cash in other institution have several problems: 1) Too much hassle to open several and managed several accounts, especially when you know it's temporary 2) Let me know if you can find a trusted institution I can invest 200-500-800K and the flexibility to transfer in/out to my brokerage account fast enough to trade funds/ETF. What is the max amount I can deposit to get 0.5%? What is 0.5% on 50K? $250 per year. Chances are I will use my cash within several weeks. IMO, it's too much work and hassle. ETrade( link) will pay you $2500 for a one million deposit or $3500 for 1.5. Schwab will match it, and I like it. I'm willing to work 1-2 hours to get $2500.

I make .55% on my Pen Fed Online savings acct. where I have about 10% ready cash. Can only transfer out 25K per day. I make 1.00% on my Apple Fed checking acct. up to 20K, no restrictions. Both are linked to my Brokerage acct. for instantaneous withdrawal.
What I do know from these institutions is as soon as rates rise, they will begin to pay out more in interest faster and higher than any for profit institution.

0.65% Marcus 13 month No-Penalty CD. It can be closed at any time after an initial 7 day hold.

Thanks for all the replies.
If any one is inclined to use an online savings account to park cash while waiting for buying opportunities,
Most brokerages allow wire transfers out without fees; Capital One and some other banks do not charge for incoming wires - check with your bank and brokerage to make sure.
An ACH deposit initiated the day an order fills should be sufficient to avoid margin interest.
From the replies, I am concluding that there are not effective alternatives to online savings accounts.

I forgot to mention Toyota Income Driver Notes. Currently paying 1.15%. No FDIC insurance, but Toyota debt is highly rated.
I believe ACH transfers have to go through a bank, but I just moved $175,000 from Toyota and it was a 1 day transfer, 1 day bank hold, and available on day 3.
