I had a breach at my workplace (insurance company big one) many years ago, after the breach I froze my accounts at credit companies. Someone was using my SSN couple of years ago and I was not able to do anything. Police refused to file a report even though I had the information on the guy who tried to get a phone with my SSN. I went one step further and I sealed my taxes by getting a pin on my taxes returns. I can't file the taxes until I provide a pin to IRS. It is crazy world especially for older folks that are not computer savvy. I live 55+ community in FL and one member got their bank cleaned out, I have a feeling they clicked on the wrong URL.

Sometimes it is not about clicking on a wrong website. I was hacked while I was installing software on a new printer. Per the instructions I went to the Epson website to get the installation link. During the installation process a QR code cane up on the printer screen. I scanned it and gave my credit card info. Epson had no idea this was going on. I questioned it at the time but assumed it was legit because it came thru Epson. I have a new card now. The lengths we must go thru to protect ourselves is crazy.

This is from yogibearbull post at his forum - "Infosys/McCamish (IMS) Breach & Kroll Signup You may have signed up for Kroll monitoring last year after the MOVEit breach for TIAA. Now you may have received another letter from TIAA about the Infosys/McCamish (IMS) breach with additional signup with Kroll that has different membership# & 2-yr period. Use another email for this 2nd signup with Kroll. You may also want to wait for the signup deadline to get closer for extending the coverage as long as possible. It would have been simpler if Kroll added this 2nd coverage to the previous signup (where they exist), but it is treating them as different signups, & there can be only one Kroll signup per email."

To add to what anitya posted, Infosys McCamish (IMS) is a 3rd party insurance IT provider for many insurers and companies with insurance operations. While more limited in scope than the previous MOVEit data transfer breach, this IMS breach affected thousands at TIAA, Fidelity, Vanguard, T Rowe Price, Principal, Ascensus, MassMutual, BoA, etc. As noted in the post, Kroll requires using a different email for each registered breach. At this rate, some may run out of emails to use . The cybersecurity problem is getting out of hand and needs national/global attention. www.theregister.com/2024/03/05/fidelity_cyberattack/www.plansponsor.com/recordkeeping-insurance-platforms-disrupted-by-infosys-cybersecurity-breach/www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/newport-group-notifies-massmutual-1565054/

anitya , After I credit freeze on my Equifax. I logged out and log in again. and under the credit status saw this looks like a " hat" picture : it says, You don't have an active duty or fraud alert in place. Do you want to place an alert? it explains: You do not have an alert in place. Depending on the type of alert, potential lenders and creditors are encouraged or required to take an extra step to verify that you are the one applying for credit. PLACE AN ALERT When does placing an alert make sense for you? When you want to inform lenders and creditors that you suspect you have been or may become a victim of fraud. When you want to encourage lenders and creditors to take steps to verify that it’s you requesting credit before granting it.

With Equifax and TransUnion, one can unfreeze for a defined time period and the account freezes when that period expires. With Experian, temporary unfreeze is not available; so, it is freeze or unfreeze, which means you have to mark your Calendar to remind yourself to log back in at a later time to freeze. I had unfrozen Experianat the beginning of Jan and forgot to freeze back, which I did today.

Done - credit freeze with all three agencies. Equifax was by far the hardest; Experian and Transunion relatively easy. About 20 minutes to finish all three. I picked up somewhere else that there are two more credit agencies: ChexSystems and Innovis. I just registered with ChexSystems and did a credit freeze. Same as with the others - a bunch of questions to verify my identity, and then one click to freeze. Innovis - no success. You don't actually register and set up an account; unlike the others, you just request a freeze. But I couldn't. Their web site seems to have problems requesting a freeze or even a credit report - it couldn't send a code to my phone, and I couldn't even request a credit report by mail. Not a very impressive company. But 4 out of 5 seems fairly secure.
