Since no one has mentioned it, I’ll add that my favorite allocation fund - and the only one I own - is Puritan (FPURX). If you want to be shocked, enter FPURX into M*, go to Chart, add Wellington VWELX under “Compare”, and click “Max” timeframe. Puritan absolutely destroyed Wellington. $10,000 invested in 1947 would be worth: FPURX +25,053,443.67 | +250,534.44% VWELX +8,202,074.85 | +82,020.75% Is there some fundamental difference between FPURX and FBALX? They SEEM quite similar in all respects... It's true that both funds have tracked each other very closely. Per M*, ERs are identical (0.5%), yields are similar (Puritan slightly higher), allocations (equity/bond) are almost identical, style boxes are very similar; however Balanced has a higher average market cap ($145b vs. 119b). Valuation metrics are similar; Puritan is slightly growthier (P/E, P/B, etc.). Quite a few differences in the top holdings, though, so they aren't clones. M* classifies Puritan's bond portfolio as "Credit Quality: Medium", while it classifies Balanced's bond portfolio as "Credit Quality: High". When you look at the M* "Fixed Income Exposure Analysis", Puritan has noticeably less AAA and more BB, B, and <B rated bonds than Balanced, so it's slightly junkier. Maybe that explains the slight yield difference. Puritan is a much older fund, yet has fewer assets ($28b vs. 41b). Puritan seems to have a higher turnover (62% vs. 36%), at least for the TTM. Puritan used to be a distinctly value fund (I believe its equity sleeve mirrored Fido's Equity & Income Fund); then about 10 years ago they overhauled it and it became much almost a growth fund. Their timing was excellent. Balanced also changed a few years ago from a one (or two) man fund to a multimanager fund with 11 managers. Eleven seems like a lot to me, but the fund's results have been good. My Puritan holding (not very big) dates back to the early 1990s, so I'll keep it forever. I reinvest dividends, but I haven't added to it in decades. Going forward, for a new investor, it might be a toss-up; I'm not sure how a new investor would decide.

They SEEM quite similar in all respects... They are indeed VERY similar. We seem to recall that yogibearbull posted one time about their histories and differences. Here's hoping he sees this and wishes to comment. We have compared them in the past but never found significant differences. The only notable difference we found was FBALX's marginally better TRs over most/all periods. EDIT: Sorry, we did not see the post by chang that provides some of the differences. Similarly, we selected FBALX many, many years ago and have always slightly favored it over FPURX.

I think we (at least) have what we wanted from this thread.
Our top two Allocation funds fitting our criteria and what we expressed in the OP remain PRWCX and FBALX.
We will duly research the following list (compiled per comments here and by reading a couple of other forums) and decide which, if any, to add to our portfolio, or simply add to PRWCX and FBALX.
We are familiar with ALL of the listed funds and have owned most of them at some point since the 1980's.
Per preliminary research and our historical knowledge: We own the first two and may just add to them. Any/all listed second/third are possibilities for us to add to portfolio. Any/all listed last are worthy candidates but seem unlikely selections at this time in lieu of what we believe are better options.
PRWCX (Own) FBALX (Own) ****** CBLAX VGWAX FPURX ****** SGENX FMSDX ****** VWELX TIBIX JABAX VBIAX VWIAX
If anyone is interested, we will post here what we decide. Hopefully this thread will assist any other posters who are interested in a list of some of the best (or at least most liked by posters) Allocation funds!
THANK YOU for all of your suggestions and comments! My husband's condition limits his (in my laymen's terms) "wide angle thoughts," but he is still very strong with "narrow focus." Compiling this list greatly assists him, and indirectly, me, by allowing him to just carve into a couple of options.

Please share, I may need help on few funds. Thank you Karen , We are leaning towards VGWAX at this point; CBLAX would likely be our 2nd choice, that is, IF we decide to add a 3rd Allocation fund instead of just adding to PRWCX and/or FBALX. There are hundreds, if not thousands of Allocation fund choices. The scoped list on this thread should serve you well.
