News reports of 2016-2021 Hyundai-Kia thefts due to lack of an engine immoblizer. Hyundai is selling a kit for $170.00. I remember using a steering wheel cane with a keyed lock years ago on my Valiant. Probably would be effective in the current situation. People would break into the car, cut the wheel, steal the wheel cane, and leave the Hyundai.. That was our laugh-out-loud post of the week. Grins, everyone.

Consumer Report publish their tire ranking, see attachment for winter/snow tires. You can see that Mich is at the top but always about 50% more expensive than other good options. Attachments:

The bottom three are a surprise! I had the Jeep out today in the mountains, and I love it. I really feel like King of the Road, looking out over that expansive hood. Love the Mini AWD, too. (It’s basically a BMW X2 chassis with a Mini superstructure.)

Not a surprise for me. Consumer Reports is the best non-biased source. I fill out their annual reports and they asked so many questions. Another important is a certain model. Toyota has been the most reliable for decades for most models. Asian on average are the most reliable. BMW just jumped 10 spots, but for years was in the middle. Consistency is important, Honda used to be second, but Benz(so expensive) has been in the bottom for decades. Chrysler/Jeep has been in the bottom for decades, too. Basically, if you factor price + reliability, nobody beats Toyota, and their vehicles do most things pretty well.

Basically, if you factor price + reliability, nobody beats Toyota, and their vehicles do most things pretty well. Except fun factor. That's why our three cars are a Smart EQforTwo, a Mini Countryman SE PHEV, and a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.

It’s ancillary, but what does gas cost there?

It ancillary, but what does gas cost there? About $6.50 a gallon, about the cheapest in Europe I think.

That's why our three cars are a Smart EQforTwo, a Mini Countryman SE PHEV, and a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I can see if you own a vehicle for off-road, maybe you need it for work. I only drive on good roads, without snow. I can see if you like speed. The only car I enjoyed was my SIL Tesla Y. Unbelievable acceleration, better than any other vehicles in that price or even 20K more. He paid under $60K last year with 2 engines. It's very quiet and stable, and amazing driving experience. You don't need mirrors since the big screen tells you everything. Braking is super easy, just lift your foot off the gas, and it stopped, the pads may last one million miles and only used in emergency. In just 2-3 minutes, I got used to it because it's intuitive. I also don't like small cars, their protection isn't good. I like at least midsize, quiet and stable ride, good seats, good reliability, and all others so well. Several months ago, I tested Hondas(Accord+CRV) and they were noisy. Toyota Camry+Rav4 seats were uncomfortable. They were noisy too. The Tucson was quiet, excellent seats, gets you a lot more safety features, reliability is good, price is cheaper, warranty is longer. I really enjoy driving it. Fun? Only motorcycles have more fun, and that's your specialty.

Because they make unreliable vehicles for decades. It's pretty easy to throw in a big engine and make it drive faster, they keep changing owners. Decades ago, I looked for a minivan. Chyrsler/Dodge owned the market, Honda+Toyota took it away, but that's not the reason I didn't buy from them. They were reports of deaths because of a back seat faulty latch( link), about $10 worth, Chrysler knew about it and refuse to fix it for years, they would rather get suited and pay up, it was cheaper than replacing it for all vans. That was enough for me to never buy their vehicles. The only reports I trust are from Consumer Reports, they buy all the vehicles, and don't accept money from these companies.

I disagree with Consumer Reports. They can barely test a dishwasher properly.
But the Hyundai Tucson does start reliably every day Monday thru Friday..

FD1000, Thanks for comments on the Tucson. Starting to get in the market and Tucson was on my list because of great reviews at consumer reports and edmunds. Good to learn these reviews may be legit.
