racqueteer ,...previously posted: "Fwiw, though a proponent of balanced funds, the weak 'bond' market led me to seriously reduce bond and balanced funds. I'm an active investor, however, with my basic expenses covered through pension and ss. I can go wherever and with any allocation breakdown I desire."Well, it's worth a lot! So we both seriously reduced bond and balanced funds. Heck, a year ago I further reduced my Wellington Fund, VWELX, owned since 1953! But this action, although rare, to reduce my standard issue bond funds to close to zero couple years ago, was enabled by owning separate funds. That's the reason why advised to own separate funds. And if stock side gets rip-roaring asymptotic upward a couple years from now, I can exit some of the stock funds w/o touching bond side. R48

TR Cap Apprec down 4 percent YTD Not a surprise for me. I have been posting about this fund over 10 years. While generalities work most times, there are exceptions that work for years, such as SGIIX. PRWCX for many years too. PIMIX from 2010-2017. This is the power of selecting best of breed and use a limited number of funds. PRWCX has an amazing record within allocation funds. Yes, I know it's not a typical fund, and why it's so good when the managers know what to do. PRWCX ranks at number 1 for 5-10-15 year...2 for 3 years and 6 for one year. A great fund is one with ST+LT great performance.

If that fund manager retires, I'll have some serious thinking and choosing to do. I got into it in 2013, so not quite 10 years ago. Profit = 11%+, annualized. Not many others have done so well. DODBX is an E-ticket rollercoaster.

Allocation funds are back. Note that they rebound strongly after bad quarter(s). They were declared dead prematurely. Twitter LINK.
